• The Titans, currently ranked last in the Big West standings, have struggled this season with a 2-16 overall record.
• They’ve won just two games during the preseason and have yet to find success in conference play, sitting at 0-8.
• With Bakersfield just ahead of them in the standings, this presents a prime opportunity for the `Runners to secure another win and climb higher in the rankings.

• The Highlanders enter the weekend with a 4-3 record in the Big West, tied with UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara.
• After suffering a tough loss in their previous game, UC Riverside will be looking to bounce back and capture their fifth conference win.

• UC Riverside comes to Bakersfield after capping off last week with a win over UC San Diego.
  • The Highlanders will travel to UC Irvine on Thursday night before Saturday’s matchup.

  • Bakersfield lost on a buzzer-beater at UCR and beat them at home 80-56.
• Barrington Hargress is averaging 20.4 for the Highlanders, scoring 40 points to catapult them over UCSD.
• UCR and CSUB are the top two offensive rebounding teams in the conference, retaining possessions and getting second-chance points could be the deciding factor in this matchup.

• The Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team will continue the 2024-25 season by tackling the Fourth Annual Chippewa Challenge this weekend.
• Two Roadrunners are currently nationally ranked by FloWrestling: #3 AJ Ferrari (197), #25 Jake Andrews (HWT).
• Former NCAA Champion AJ Ferrari is ranked the #13 Pound-for-Pound wrestler in the country by FloWrestling. InterMat and The Open Mat both rank Ferrari #3 at 197 as well.
• FloWrestling ranks Cal State Bakersfield #245as a team while InterMat has the Roadrunners at #26.
• Bakersfield native Jake Andrews is now 13-2 on the season.
• CSUB has won Pac-12 Athlete of the Week four times this season: Jake Andrews (Nov. 26), Guillermo Escobedo (Dec. 17), and AJ Ferrari (Dec. 24 & Jan. 14).
• Bakersfield’s wrestling program had an active streak of sending at least one Roadrunner to the NCAA Championships for 50 consecutive seasons, snapped last year. A mix of ready returners and determined newcomers will help 6th-year Head Coach Luke Smith return the program to new prominence in the wrestling world.
• Smith recruited two standout veterans to help guide the way: 2021 NCAA Champion (197) AJ Ferrari and 3-time NCAA Qualifier (174/165) Gerrit Nijenhuis (Oklahoma/Purdue).
• Seven consistent starters returned from last season’s lineup, giving Bakersfield a battle-tested lineup: Richard Castro-Sandoval (125), Santino Sanchez (133), Brock Rogers (149), Devyn Flores-Che (157), Guillermo Escobedo (165), Braden Smelser (184), and Jake Andrews (HWT).

CSUB at Chippewa Challenge 

• The Fourth Annual Chippewa Challenge features the same four teams participating in a quad dual: Cal State Bakersfield, Central Michigan, Campbell, and American.
• The event is a unique gathering of four head coaches connected via the Central Michigan program, which was led by Tom Borrelli until his retirement at the end of last season.
• Borrelli once coached all three other head coaches in the event, including Bakersfield's Luke Smith, who was a four-time NCAA Qualifier during his time at CMU.
• All four teams have taken a turn hosting the annual event, with CSUB welcoming the Challenge to Bakersfield last season.
• This year's quad dual will be hosted in Washington, D.C. by American.
