• Following an undefeated exhibition slate (2-0-1), including a tie against No. 11 LMU and a 3-1 road win against No. 21 UCLA, the Cal State Bakersfield men’s soccer team has rolled that momentum into a solid start to the 2024 season.
• The Roadrunners suffered their first loss of the season this past weekend at the hands of California Baptist, a squad that has been to the NCAA Tournament each of the last two seasons.
• Included in a large group of returning `Runners is team captain and Bakersfield native Bryson Hankins, who earned First Team All-Big West last year, and fellow captain Connor Mautino, the team’s leading goal scorer in 2023.

 CSUB at #8 Portland

• Portland is coming off a 12-5-0 season in which the Pilots ranked in the Top 10 for most of the season.
• The Pilots lost to Oregon State in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament, snapping Portland’s 28-game home win streak.
• CSUB trails Portland 2-1-0 in the all-time series, which dates back to 2007, CSUB’s first season as an NCAA Division I member.
  • All three meetings in the series history have ended in 2-1 final scores.
• Two years ago in Portland, the Pilots earned a 2-1 victory on the back of a pair of first-half goals.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women's soccer team continues their away competition this week. 
• The team will face off against UNLV and Fresno State.
• CSUB looks to bounce back after some close games against Saint Mary's and UC Berkeley this past week.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women's volleyball team is excited to be back at home in the Icardo Center this weekend for a three-day tournament. After traveling to Orem for the Utah Invitational, the Roadrunners will be facing off against three competitive teams. 
• Starting off on Thursday morning, CSUB will be playing Oregon state. Continuing Friday morning facing off against Seattle U and ending the tournament on Saturday afternoon with a match against Nevada.

Oregon State

• Thursday, September 5th at 10:30 a.m.
• The home opener for Bakersfield, where we will be joined by over 300 kids from the local community for Education Day.
• Historically, the `Runners have only played OSU twice and loss both times back in 2011 and 2014.
• The Beavers are currently 1-2 for the season, beating Bakersfield foe, the Fresno state bulldogs in their first match of the season.

Seattle U

• Friday, September 6th at 10:00 a.m.
• On day two of the Roadrunner Classic, Bakersfield will go head to head with Seattle U for an exciting matchup.
• SU is coming off a losing tournament as well, finishing 1-2 for the weekend, taking only a single win from Big West opponent, CSUN.
• Bakersfield was won 2-1 historically when playing Seattle U.

Nevada

• Saturday, September 7th at 2:00 p.m.
• The Roadrunners will wrap up the tournament with a match against Nevada.
• Nevada leads the `Runners all time with a 2-1 overall record.
• The Wolf Pack is the only team that will come into the tournament with a winning record to start off their season.
  • Playing three games at Rose City Showdown last weekend, winning two against San Francisco and Portland Sate , Nevada will be a formidable opponent.

• Bakersfield opens the 2024 season at the Wolverine Invitational in Saratoga Springs, Utah.
• Returner, Sarah Mutai leads the `Runners again this season as they begin year two under Katy Barrett.
  • Last season in the opening tournament, Mutai reset the CSUB single-round record with a three-under-par 69 in the final round of the Timpanagos Collegiate Classic.
• Bakersfield will debut three of the five freshman at the Wolverine Invitational.
• The Roadrunner golf team will put their mettle to the test against an unfamiliar course at TalonsCove Golf Club.
