Hansen Announces 2024-25 Swim & Dive Slate

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Just over two months away from the start of the 2024-25 season, the Cal State Bakersfield men's and women's swimming and diving teams are excitedly preparing for another momentous campaign.

"This is going to be a great year," said Chris Hansen, CSUB Director of Swimming. "So many big changes: we are going to take some of our top swimmers back to the US Open, we are entering The Big West, and our Roadrunner Invite is going to bigger than it has ever been. We are just excited to get started!"

The new season kicks off Oct. 11-12 when Bakersfield hosts the CSUB Sprint Classic and the Roadrunner Invite. The `Runners will host Denver, Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara, Seattle U, UC Davis and Pepperdine at the Hillman Aquatic Center for the two-day competition featuring hundreds of student-athletes enjoying their first races of the season.

CSUB will hit the road for their first dual on Nov. 2 at the University of the Pacific. A week later, the `Runners will host Fresno State and Fresno Pacific for a tri-dual.

Bakersfield will hit the training grind hard in November before tapering for the Utah Tech Invite, Nov. 21-23. A select group of Bakersfield's top performers will travel to the Toyota US Open, Dec. 4-7, to swim against elite competition.

The `Runners will host fellow Big West members UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego for a pair of duals on Dec. 18 and Dec. 21, respectively, with the latter meet being Bakersfield's Senior Day. CSUB will close out dual season Jan. 4 on the road at Cal Poly while the `Runner divers will tackle the CBU Diving Invite Jan. 9-11.

Championship season kicks off in mid February when the `Runners will head to Houston for the first-ever Big West Championships. Cal State Bakersfield's student-athletes will be vying for spots in the NCAA Championships, which will be held on back-to-back weeks in March for the women and men in Federal Way, Wash.

Hansen will also travel with select swimmers to multiple TYR Pro Series events in Spring, allowing the `Runners to get experience against international-level competition. CSUB swimmers like Vili Sivec (Croatia) and Chelaine Van der Westhuizen (South Africa) have proven to be worthy of competing against the best in their country and the best in the world.
