Roadrunner Scholar-Athletes Post 3.11 Spring GPA

Roadrunners continue streak with 19th-consecutive academic term above 3.00

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield scholar-athletes once again excelled in the classroom as evidenced by the Roadrunners collectively posting a 3.11 grade point average (GPA) during the Spring 2024 semester, marking the 19th-consecutive academic term that CSUB has been able to boast a department-wide GPA higher than a 3.00. Fueled by dedication to their scholarly pursuits, CSUB's student-athletes currently have a 3.23 cumulative GPA, just 0.02 below the department record set after Spring 2022.

Once again pacing CSUB Athletics Department during the Spring semester was the `Runner women's swimming and diving team, which collectively posted a 3.53 GPA, while 10 of CSUB's 15 programs registered term GPAs of 3.00 or better. The women's golf, basketball, soccer, and beach volleyball squads all clocked in above 3.20 while the men's soccer team registered a 3.29 GPA this Spring to lead the men's programs. The baseball, men's swim & dive, and wrestling teams all finished the semester above a 3.00.
 
"Academic Excellence is a pillar of CSUB Athletics and we are very proud of our student-athletes for achieving this cumulative GPA standard for the 19th consecutive semester," said Kyle Conder, CSUB Assistant Vice President/Director of Athletics. "The academic success of our student-athletes is made possible because of CSUB's outstanding faculty and university leadership, as well as the support of our coaches and incredible dedication of our staff in the Kegley Center for Student Success."
 
In total, 138 Roadrunners finished the Spring 2024 semester with term grade point averages higher than 3.25 and earned Dean's List honors. Meanwhile 188 of CSUB's scholar-athletes (66% of the Department) boast cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or better and qualified for the Athletics Director's Honor Roll.
 
Fifteen`Runner scholar-athletes, representing nine different teams, posted perfect 4.00 GPAs in the Spring:

  • Men's Soccer: Adrian Jogerst
  • Wrestling: Chris Neal
  • Women's Basketball: Caitie Gingras
  • Beach Volleyball: Ella Ensign
  • Softball: Carter Thornton
  • Women's Soccer: Sara Ybarra
  • Women's Swimming and Diving: Madi Gray, Josiane Hill, Nicole Horton, Carolynn Kenny
  • Women's Track & Field/Cross Country: Miranda Miller, Julia Stein, Helena Valentic
