Toro and Garrett End Season at NCAA West Regionals

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – Juniors Javier Toro and Matthew Garrett competed at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on Wednesday night in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Toro placed 23rd overall in a deep field of competition, while Garrett finished in 40th overall. Due to the weather, the hammer throw event that was originally set for 9:00 a.m. (CT) was postponed to 10:00 p.m.

Both men were placed in the first flight out of three. Toro completed all three attempts, his best being in the final attempt. He threw down 205'2" in his final throw of the evening. The junior finished third in the flight.

Garrett marked in a 185'1" in his first throw of the evening. He struggled the last two attempts and fouled out in both.

Toro and Garrett both had historic seasons as Roadrunners. Garrett ranks third all-time in program history for the hammer throw while Toro is fifth all-time.

Both men will return next year as seniors and will get a chance to improve their marks in their events.
