NCAA West Prelims Begins on Wednesday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield Track and Field program will have two athlete's competing at this year's NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, hosted by The University of Arkansas. The four-day meet will begin on Wednesday, May 22nd, and will end on Saturday, May 25th. Matthew Garrett and Javier Toro both qualified in the men's hammer throw. Both throwers were in the top-48 in the West Region in their event.

Garrett ranks 3rd on the Roadrunner all-time list with his personal best of 211'8". His mark ranks him 34th in the West Region. Toro moved up to 5th all-time list in program history when he threw a five-foot PB. His mark of 208'6" ranks him 41st in the region.

The NCAA has two regional meets, one in the West and the other in the East. 48 student-athletes are entered into each event and those who are the top 12 finishers will earn a berth at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, set to take place in Eugene, Oregon on June 5-8.

The four-day meet will alternative men's and women's competitions each day with the men competing on Wednesday and Friday, while the women are set to compete on Thursday and Saturday. The hammer throw event for Garrett and Toro will take place at 10:00 a.m. (CT) on Wednesday, May 22.

Each day of the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds will be streamed on ESPN+. Live results will be available through HERE.
