CSUB Athletics Announces Leadership Promotions

Conder adds Assistant Vice President title

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- CSUB Athletics announced several promotions to its leadership team on Monday afternoon, including Athletics Director Kyle Conder adding the title of Assistant Vice President at California State University, Bakersfield. Cindy Goodmon is now the Deputy Athletics Director, Jon Michalik is the Senior Associate Athletics Director, and Arthur Smith is the Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee (ADID).
 
Conder joined CSUB in October 2022 and has provided strategic direction during a pivotal time for intercollegiate athletics. Since his arrival, Conder developed CSUB Athletics: RISING, a goal-oriented plan for the Roadrunners that includes the mission of CSUB Athletics based on the pillars of Academic Excellence, an Outstanding Student-Athlete Experience, Competitive Success, and Community Engagement. CSUB Athletics: RISING also includes the program's vision: Pursue Championships and Graduate Leaders; as well, as the department's core values: Respect, Integrity, Spirit, Inclusion, Nurture, and Grit.

Since his arrival at CSUB, Conder has hired six head coaches, including Ari Wideman, the first female head coach in the history of CSUB Women's Basketball and the first Black female head coach in any sport in the history of CSUB Athletics. Conder is one of two athletics directors to serve on The Big West's Strategic Direction Committee to position the conference for long-term success in the evolving landscape of intercollegiate athletics. Conder is also one of two athletics directors in the entire country to serve on the NCAA Division I Board of Directors Infractions Process Committee, which provides oversight for the NCAA infractions process.
 
Goodmon ('93, '02) is responsible for day-to-day management and oversight of multiple areas within the athletics department including policies & procedures, human resources, and business operations. She is CSUB Athletics' Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) and serves as the sport supervisor for CSUB Women's Basketball, Softball, and Beach Volleyball. Goodmon is a member of The Big West Council and one of two SWAs on The Big West Budget Committee. She previously served on the NCAA Division I Recruiting and Athletics Personnel Issues Committee. Goodmon is a two-time alumna of CSUB, earning both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Public Administration, and she is the longest-serving athletics administrator at CSUB, joining the department in 1994.
 
Michalik started at CSUB in 2019 and manages multiple areas within the athletics department including NCAA compliance, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), professional development for CSUB Athletics staff, Sports Medicine, and Human Performance and Strength & Conditioning. Michalik is a member of the athletics department Executive Staff and acts as a liaison to university partners, as well. He serves as the sport supervisor for CSUB Baseball and Volleyball. Michalik spearheaded CSUB Athletics' Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) programming, cultivating platforms with Influxer, Athlete's Thread, and Opendorse. Prior to CSUB, Michalik served in various intercollegiate athletics and academic affairs roles supporting NCAA Division I Athletics at Robert Morris University (2014-2019) and the University of Memphis (2010-2014). A native of Milan, N.H., Michalik received a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Leisure Management from the University of Memphis in 2012 and a Master of Business Administration from Memphis in 2014.
 
Smith added the Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designee (ADID) to his responsibilities. The ADID is a NCAA designation for a staff member who serves as the conduit for information related to national-, local- and campus-level issues of diversity and inclusion and supports diverse and inclusive practices related to athletics. Smith attended the NCAA Inclusion Forum in 2023 and 2024, enhancing CSUB Athletics' commitment to inclusion. Smith helps lead CSUB Athletics' Marketing and Fan Engagement, including serving as the in-venue emcee for many CSUB Athletics events. He is also the Head Coach for the cheerleading team & spirit coordinator, which includes oversight of the dance team and Rowdy the Mascot. Smith joined CSUB in October 2013 after serving in a similar role at Purdue University from 2006-10. He was a three-time captain for the Wichita State University cheerleading team from 2003-05 and helped lead his teams to three second-place finishes in Division 1 at the National Cheerleading Associate Championships. In 2007, as a member of the coaching staff, the Shockers took home the title. A native of Wichita, Kansas, Smith earned his undergraduate degree from Wichita State University in 2006, majoring in Minority Studies and Sociology.
