The Cal State Bakersfield track and field team is set to travel down to Santa Barbara, Calif. this week for the UCSB Invitational, Mar. 8. The meet officially starts on Mar. 6 with the Sam Adams Combined Events. The Roadrunners are set to just compete on Friday with the field events beginning at 9 a.m. with the men's shot put and women's hammer throw. CSUB at UCSB Invitational - Friday, Mar. 8, All Day
- The `Runners are set to compete at the UCSB Invitational hosted by the Gauchos, other notable teams competing are Cal Poly, UCSB, and Westmont. This will be the first time that Bakersfield will be competing at this meet.
- The men's throwers are coming off an impressive performance in the hammer throw last weekend at the Beach Opener and have eyes on continuing their momentum. Javier Toro finished the first week of outdoor competition ranked #1 in the nation in the event. Teammates Matthew Garrett and Axel Salazar are set to join Toro in the event. Toro and Garrett will also compete in the shot put.
- On the women's side, Jessi Solis is back in action for the hammer throw. The senior was the top CSUB performer all indoor season and looks to carry over what she accomplished during the winter into spring season.
- For the track events, Helena Valentic is coming off an 11-second personal best in the open 3,000m. She is set for her season debut in the 3,000m steeplechase.
- Julie Johnson will race in the 200m and 400m this weekend. Teammate Nerissa Thompson will join her in the 200m and will also compete in the 100m. Thompson is coming off a 6th place finish in the 100m last weekend at the Long Beach Opener.
- The duo Julia Stein and Jaztyn Greer is set to race in the 100mH and 400mH.
- For the men, Jacob Yagers will race the 1500m for the second straight week. He opened up the season with faster time in the event then he did a year ago.
