CSUB 1, UC Irvine 3

• Bakersfield faced off against UC Irvine for the second time this season on Friday night in the Icardo Center, marking the start of a lively Alumni Weekend.
• The Anteaters came out strong, quickly taking control of the first set and winning 25-17, despite Bakersfield's efforts to tie the score three times early on.
• The second set brought a surge of energy as both teams battled intensely. Bakersfield fought hard, ultimately securing a thrilling 31-29 victory—the longest set they’ve played this season.
• Samia Bhakta emerged as a key player, contributing 9 kills and 2 blocks while hitting an impressive .400. However, the Anteaters regrouped and dominated the remainder of the match, closing it out with a 3-1 win.

CSUB 3, Cal State Fullerton 1

• The following day, Bakersfield returned to the Icardo Center for a conference matchup against Cal State Fullerton.
• In a tough opening set, Fullerton edged out the Roadrunners, winning 25-23. However, Bakersfield quickly regrouped and turned the tide in the second set, limiting the Titans to just 11 points and securing a commanding 25-11 victory.
• Sydney Dunning delivered an outstanding performance, notching 18 kills and hitting .515, while the team collectively recorded a striking .431 hitting percentage. Bakersfield’s dominance continued in sets three and four, with scores of 25-10 and 25-15, respectively, allowing them to clinch the match 3-1.

• The Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season tied for third place in the Big West standings after the preseason coaches’ poll predicted the Roadrunners to finish tied for last.
• The `Runners were three minutes away from a tie at Cal Poly on Saturday night, which would have made CSUB the Big West Regular Season Champions, but the Mustangs foiled Bakersfield’s plans.
• Two-time Big West Offensive Player of the Week Connor Mautino has 11 goals on the season and ranks #9 in the country in goals per game (0.79).
  • Mautino is the first `Runner to tally double-digit goals in a single season in the last decade (12, Julian Zamora, 2014).

CSUB 0, Cal Poly 1

• Cal State Bakersfield went toe-to-toe with the Mustangs all the way down to the final whistle, but Cal Poly’s late goal lifted the home team past CSUB and gave Cal Poly the Big West title.
• Cal Poly’s Conner Lisenbee scored the game-winning goal with 3:07 left on the clock.
• The match was physical with five Mustangs drawing yellow cards.
• Over 2,400 fans were in attendance to watch the battle rage inside Spanos Stadium.
• Should the `Runners make it past UC Davis in the Big West Quarterfinals, CSUB would get a rematch with the Mustangs just over a week later.

• The team clinched a spot in the playoffs with a tie to the Titans and earned the 5th seed in the Big West playoffs.

CSUB 1, UC Irvine 0

• In a crucial elimination game, the `Runners put on a thriller show against the reigning Big West champs.
• In a pretty even game, Isis Salazar put in a late goal assisted by Anela Nigito in the 44th minute to end the first half.
• The `Runners then had a thrilling showdown in the second half, as both teams had many offensive opportunities.
• Goalkeeper Kamy Anaya emerged as the most valuable player with eight saves in the match to keep the `Runners alive.

• The Cal State Bakersfield Cross Country team raced at the Big West Cross Country Championships hosted by UC Riverside, in Riverside over the weekend.
• 7 Roadrunner athletes toed the line for the 6,000-meter race on Saturday morning against the other ten schools in the conference.
• Bakersfield native Rain Gomez continued to pave the way for the team for the fourth straight meet. Since her arrival at CSUB, Gomez has been the number one runner for the program.
• Gomez finished the race in 82nd place with a time of 22:44.8. This was her second fastest time for the distance in the blue and gold.
• Freshman Crystal Torrecillas had a personal best time for the 6k at the championship meet with a time of 23:39.0. She was the second Bakersfield finisher.
• Seniors Neyda Martinez, Jayden Reyes Sarmiento, and Alicia Murralles rounded out the top five for CSUB. They ended their collegiate cross country careers on the UCR course.
• Bakersfield finished in eleventh place with a total of 353 points.
• The athletes will take time off and focus on indoor track and field season.

• Coming off a highly-successful start to the 2024-25 campaign, the Cal State Bakersfield men's and women's swimming teams set out for their first dual meet of the year.
• The Roadrunners faced off against the Pacific Tigers, who treated the dual like their mid-season meet while CSUB has its eyes on fast times at the Utah Tech Invite in three weeks.

CSUB at Pacific

• Junior Arthur Amaral Schneider showed out in the dual, looking like an ironman despite a brutal slate of events.
  • Schneider won the 1000 free with ease, then bounced right back up to place second in the 200 free in one of his best dual meet times ever. He went on to post a dual meet PR in the 500 free with another easy victory, before helping the Vili Sivec, Kyle Sary, and Yigit Saglam win the 400 free relay.
• Sivec earned a victory in the 100 fly before finishing second in the 200 fly with his fastest dual meet swim ever.
• CJ Manuel continued to swim much fastest than he has previously, placing second in the 200 back.
• Yigit Saglam rounded out the men’s standouts, placing third in the 100 back and 100 fly with a pair of great swims.
• On the women’s side, the senior `Runners and sophomore Josiane Hill stood up to compete.
• Jessica Franco won the 1000 free in her first time contesting the race, then came right back and posted her best-ever 200 free dual meet time.
• Lorena Jerebic posted a pair of victories in the 100 fly and 200 fly to earn big points.
• Hill won the 100 back and finished runner-up in the 200 back.
• Danielle Albright won the 200 IM and placed second in both breaststroke races.
• The `Runner women fell by a score of 156-106 while CSUB’s men lost 177-85 to the Tigers.
• Bakersfield agreed to give up big points by not competing their divers, since Pacific does not have any divers.

• The Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team opened the 2024-25 season with plenty of action this weekend, tackling a tri-dual before challenging the Menlo Invite.
• The Roadrunners saw several individual stand out, including AJ Ferrari and Jake Andrews during CSUB’s dual, as well as true freshman Evan Manzo at the Menlo Invite.
• Former NCAA Champion AJ Ferrari is ranked the #12 Pound-for-Pound wrestler in the country by FloWrestling, which also ranks him #4 in the 197 pound weightclass. InterMat ranked Ferrari #1 at 197.

No. 22/27 CSUB 15, Utah Valley 25

• The `Runners jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the match thanks to a leadoff victory from Bakersfield native Jake Andrews (HWT), who used two third-period takedowns to earn an 8-2 decision over Jack Forbes.
• CSUB extended its advantage to 6-0 thanks to a dramatic finish from 125-pounder Richard Castro-Sandoval, who secured a takedown with eight seconds remaining to defeat Bridger Ricks 7-6.
• UVU responded with tech falls in the next two matches to gain the lead, 10-6.
• Brock Rogers (149) tied the match at 10-10 with an 8-0 major decision against Q’veil Quintanilla.
• The Wolverines rallied to win the next four bouts, going ahead 25-10.
• No. 1 AJ Ferrari (197) closed out the match with a dominant tech fall, 22-6, over Kael Bennie.

No. 22/27 CSUB 12, No. 12/23 Stanford 29

• For the second-straight match, Jake Andrews (HWT) got the `Runners on the board first, outlasting Jackson Mankowski for a 2-0 decision.
• Bakersfield then enjoyed a 9-0 lead when Stanford forfeited the 125-poiund bout.
• Stanford rallied from the slow start, winning the next seven bouts, including four with their ranked wrestlers.
• During that stretch, two `Runners gave their ranked counterparts all they could handle:
  • Brock Rogers (149) battled to the end with No. 12 Jaden Abas before dropping a 6-3 decision.
  • Guillermo Escobedo (165) led No. 3 Hunter Garvin late in the third period, but a late takedown plus riding time gave Garvin an 8-5 victory.
• No. 1 AJ Ferrari (197) once again wrapped up the match with another win, this time in the marquee matchup of the evening. The `Runners earned a 5-0 decision over No. 18 Nick Stemmet.

CSUB at Menlo Open

• Two `Runners advanced to the semifinals undefeated in Jose Farias (157) and Evan Manzo (165).
  • Manzo went all the way to the Championship match before falling to Utah Valley’s nationally-ranked (No. 7) Terrell Barraclough.
• A total of five `Runners earned spots in placers with Romeo McNeal (133), Josiah Sandoval (133), and Jaxtyn Frost (141) joining Farias and Manzo.
• Frost placed fourth overall at 141 pounds, going 3-2 on the day.
• Sandoval and McNeal also both went 3-2 at 133 pounds.
• The 5th place matches were not contested.
