Nine `Runners Earn Academic All-District Honors

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2024 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Cal State Bakersfield Athletics Department learned Tuesday that Roadrunners – five men and four women – earned Academic All-District honors.

Academic All-District and All-America

CSC's Academic All-America® program is widely considered the most stringent honor for student-athletes to achieve as it requires exceptional performance simultaneously in competition and in the classroom. Academically, candidates of at least sophomore standing must have maintained a minimum 3.50 GPA. Athletically, All-District® honorees must have competed in at least 90% of their team's competitions, or started in at least 66% of those contests.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December. for the soccer programs.

Men

Head Coach Adam Grant set a new benchmark for the program with five `Runners earning Academic All-District® honors: Fillip Arras, Luka Geishauser, Adrian Jogerst, Connor Mautino, and Sinan Solmaz. Four of these five `Runners were also All-Big West selections this season, ranking them among the best and the brightest, academically and athletically.

Mautino is a back-to-back Academic All-District® honoree after earning the award in 2023. The native of Lake Forest, Calif. led the `Runners in scoring each of the last two seasons and consistently ranked among the Top 15 in the country all season long in goals per game (0.69). This season, he became the first `Runner in a decade to tally double-digit goals while also recording the first hat trick since 2012. Academically, Mautino has a 3.80 cumulative GPA as a senior studying business administration.

The other four men's honorees are a quartet of international student-athletes who are all sophomores. Geishauser and Solmaz are a pair of defenders who held down the CSUB backline all season long, leading the team in minutes played. Both joined Mautino as First Team All-Big West honorees this season while excelling in the classroom as business administration majors. Solmaz boasts a 3.87 GPA while fellow German native Geishauser holds an outstanding 3.70 GPA.

Jogerst, another German, tied for second on the team in goals (3) and points (6) on his way to Second Team All-Conference honors. As a kinesiology major, the sophomore has an unblemished 4.00 GPA. CSUB's final honoree this season is Arras, another sophomore who hails from Norway. Thanks to a 3.68 cumulative GPA as a business administration major and leading the entire Big West in assist per game (0.35), Arras established himself as a clear candidate for this award.

Women

On the women's side, second-year Head Coach Bernardo Silva enjoyed four `Runners earning the prestigious distinction after a historic season that saw CSUB reach the Big West Championship Game: Karen Flores, Kim Garcia, Paige Rodriguez, and Sara Ybarra.

Rodriguez ranked second in the Big West with seven assists this season and was second on the team in points with nine, earning Honorable Mention All-Conference along the way. A psychology major, Rodriguez owns an amazing 3.94 cumulative GPA. Ybarra is another first-year `Runner who played a vital role in the CSUB midfielder this season, tallying two goals and two assists while making 16 starts. She sits just behind Rodriguez with a 3.94 GPA as a biology major.

A member of the Ecuadorian National Team member, Flores has become the first three-time Academic All-District® honoree in program history, also earning nods in 2023 and 2022. The forward tied for the team lead in goals with four and tied for third in points with nine. A senior, Flores is on track to graduate with a degree in engineering sciences and maintains a 3.81 GPA. Fellow senior Garcia is tied with Flores at four goals on the year and is tied for the team lead with 10 points on the year. A sparkplug on the field, Garcia also excels on the classroom, owning a 3.56 GPA as a kinesiology major.
