• The Cal State Bakersfield men's basketball season is officially here as the squad will travel up north to take on Cal for the season opener.

Cal - Monday, November 4th at 8:30 PM

• Bakersfield opens the season in the Bay Area to take on California
• The two teams met last season, CSUB fell to the Golden Bears 83-63
  • Cal finished the season with a 13-19 record, going 9-11 in their last season in the Pac-12 conference.
• The two teams have split the all-time series 2-2, with Bakersfield winning two of the last three matchups.
  • Bakersfield’s last win came in March of 2017 in round one of the NIT.
    • Cal was the 1-seed in the tournament and CSUB the 8-seed.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women's cross country team has successfully completed three regular season meets and is ready to take on the post season.
• Newcomer Rain Gomez garnished the 4k school record to open up the 2024 season back in August. Gomez broke into the top 10 spot for the 6k two weeks ago at the Bronco Invitational.
• Since joining the Bakersfield squad, Gomez has led the way for the `Runners in every race and looks to continue to be the anchor for the team. 
• Neyda Martinez and newcomer  Crystal Torrecillas have been a great 2-3 duo for the squad. 
• Valerie Garcia has had a solid 2024 regular season performance as she dramatically improved from last year. 

2024 Big West Championships

• Saturday, Nov. 27, 9:15 a.m. (PT), Riverside, Calif.
• 6k race, UCR Agricultural Center Course
• Championship season is officially here for the Cross Country team, all Big West schools are set to toe the line early morning to claim champions individually and as a team. 
• Neyda Martinez, Alicia Muralles, Jayden Reyes Sarmiento, and Valerie Garcia brings post season experience as all competed last year for CSUB at the championship meet. 
•  This will be the first time Rain Gomez, Karla Gonzales, and Crystal Torrecillas will compete at the Big West Championships.

• The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team is gearing up for an exciting weekend at the Icardo Center as they celebrate Alumni Weekend. The `Runners will host two matches: the first against UC Irvine on Friday night, followed by a game against Cal State Fullerton on Saturday.

UC Irvine - Friday, November 1st at 6:00 PM

• This matchup marks the second encounter between Bakersfield and the Anteaters this season as conference play winds down.
• Earlier in the season, Bakersfield secured a 3-1 victory on the road against UCI.
• Since that match, the Anteaters have improved their conference record to 6-4, placing them in a tie for third with four other teams.

Cal State Fullerton - Saturday, November 2nd at 4:00 PM

• The Roadrunners will face the Titans for the second time this season.
• In their earlier meeting, Bakersfield triumphed with a 3-1 win on the road.
• The Titans are still seeking their first conference win this year and currently sit at the bottom of the standings with a 0-10 record.

• The Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team clinched a spot in the Big West Championship with a big victory last week, gaining a little bit of breathing room in a jam-packed league table.
• The Roadrunners will wrap up the regular season on the road this weekend with a chance to win the league title.
• CSUB currently sits in second place in the Big West standings, just one point behind UC Santa Barbara.
• If the `Runners win against Cal Poly this weekend and UCSB ties or loses against UC Riverside, CSUB would leapfrog UCSB to win CSUB Athletics' first Big West title since joining the league in 2020.
• While CSUB did suffer a road loss last week, the `Runners have an solid record of 7-5-5 over the team's last 17 road games.
• Two-time Big West Offensive Player of the Week Connor Mautino netted another goal last week, continuing his red-hot year with 11 goals.
• Mautino became the first `Runner to tally double-digit goals in a single season in a decade (12, Julian Zamora, 2014) and ranks in No. 10 in the entire country in goals per game (0.79).
• CSUB (7-4-4, 4-3-2 BW) will close out Big West play this weekend with one final match:

CSUB at Cal Poly (6-4-7, 3-1-4 BW)

• San Luis Obispo, Calif. / Spanos Stadium
• Cal Poly sits just one points behind CSUB in third place in the Big West standings
• Just like the `Runners, the Mustangs could potentially leapfrog UC Santa Barbara with a win on Saturday night.
• The Mustangs come into the weekend hot, only taking one loss in their last 13 matches.
• CSUB and Cal Poly enjoy a rich history in their all-time series, which dates back all the way to 1979.
• The Mustangs have dominated most of the success in the series, owning a 27-5-5 record over the `Runners.
• More recently, Cal Poly has a 2-0-1 record against CSUB since the `Runners began competing in the Big West in 2021.
• Last year in Bakersfield, the two teams played to a 1-1 tie. The single point was not enough for the `Runners, who missed the playoffs by just one point while the Mustangs just barely snuck in.

• The Cal State Bakersfield women's soccer season heads into the last game of the regular season in hopes of clinching a spot in the Big West Tournament.
• The Roadrunners will face off against Cal State Fullerton on Thursday night.
• CSUB currently is tied for 4th in the Big West rankings. The team must win on Thursday and UC Davis must lose against CSUN to place 2nd in the Big West.
• If the team qualifies for the playoffs this will be the first time the women's soccer program qualifies for postseason play in program history since joining the Big West in 2020.

• CSUB leads the all-time series against Grand Canyon 24-3, having won the last six matchups.
• GCU will kick off their season with an exhibition game against Benedictine Mesa on October 30th.
• CSUB will be looking to build momentum as both teams begin their seasons early next week.

• The Cal State Bakersfield men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will continue the 2024-25 season with their first dual meet of the season.
• The Roadrunners opened the season a few weeks ago with a pair of home meets, enjoying several standout performances.
• Junior Vili Sivec earned Big West Athlete of the Week for his dominant swims on Opening Weekend.
• Bakersfield is coming off a highly-successful 2023-24 season which saw the `Runners win eight conference medals.
• The `Runner rosters feature several experienced veterans who will look to lead the way, including Sivec, who is the reigning MPSF Swimmer of the Year.
• CSUB is in a new era as the `Runners are in their first season in The Big West with the first Big West Championships scheduled for Feb. 12-15 in Houston.

CSUB at Pacific

• The CSUB men are on hot streak between Pacific. The `Runners have 5 wins in a row with their last loss happening almost 17 years ago in 2007
• The last time the men faced off, CSUB pulled through with a 158-136 win in 2023
• On the women's side, CSUB has not lost to Pacific since 2007, also making it 17 years without a loss
• Last time the women swam against the Tigers, CSUB dominated the pool winning 205-86 in 2023
• The divers will also compete, tackling the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.

• The Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team will kick off the 2024-25 season with plenty of action this weekend, tackling a tri-dual before challenging the Menlo Open.
• Bakersfield’s wrestling program had an active streak of sending at least one Roadrunner to the NCAA
• Championships for 50 consecutive seasons snapped last year. A mix of returners and newcomers will help 6th-year Head Coach Luke Smith return the program to prominence in the wrestling world.
• Smith recruited two standout veterans to help guide the way: 2021 NCAA Champion (197) AJ Ferrari
• and 3-time NCAA Qualifier (174/165) Gerrit Nijenhuis (Oklahoma/Purdue).
• Seven consistent starters returned from last season’s lineup, giving Bakersfield a battle-tested lineup: Richard Castro-Sandoval (125), Santino Sanchez (133), Brock Rogers (149), Devyn Flores-Che (157), Guillermo Escobedo (165), Braden Smelser (184), and Jake Andrews (HWT).
• Former NCAA Champion AJ Ferrari is ranked the #12 Pound-for-Pound wrestler in the country by FloWrestling, which also ranks him #4 in the 197 pound weightclass. InterMat ranked Ferrari #1 at 197.
• FloWrestling ranks Cal State Bakersfield #27 as a team while InterMat has the Roadrunners at #22.

CSUB at Stanford Tri-Dual

• CSUB at #12/23 Stanford, 7 p.m. (PT)
• Stanford, Calif. / Burnham Pavilion
• CSUB and Utah Valley will be meeting for just the eighth time in series history and the first time since the 2021-22 season. The Wolverines own a 5-2 advantage all-time against the `Runners.
• UVU has won its last four matchups against CSUB.
• CSUB and Stanford have enjoyed a rich history competing against each other as members of the Pac-12 prior to Stanford leaving for the ACC. In the all-time series, the `Runners lead the Cardinal 28-16.
• Stanford has enjoyed the bulk of success recently, winning five-straight duals against Bakersfield.

CSUB at Menlo Open

• CSUB will compete in the annual Menlo Open.
• The 2024 edition has 12 confirmed teams planning to attend, including the CSUB, Cal Poly (SLO), California Baptist, Stanford, and Utah Valley.
