Cal State Bakersfield Wrestling: 2024-25 Juniors

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – With the season underway for the Cal State Bakersfield Wresting team, it is time to introduce our 2024-25 Roadrunner student-athletes! With a big incoming recruiting class and some inspiring veterans looking to lead the way, the `Runner men are preparing to skyrocket with the team's first home events just around the corner. Before the excitement builds up and the anticipation gathers, Head Coach Luke Smith would like you to meet our junior `Runners for the upcoming season.

JUNIORS

Eathon Rider

5-foot-4, 125 pounder
From Litchfield Park, Ariz. and attended Millenium High School
Two-time Section Champion
Three-time state qualifier and two-time state placer
Became first male in MHS history to final at a state Championship
Competed for two seasons at Bakersfield College
Won a conference title and was a state qualifier
Earned All-American status at 2023 Senior Nationals

Richard Castro-Sandoval

5-foot-2, 125 pounder
From Santa Ynez, Calif. and attended Valley Union High School
Was the Pirates' MVP in each of his four seasons at VUHS
Placed at his state tournament four different times
All-American recognition in 2019
Redshirted his 2021-22 season
Went 3-1 at the Menlo Open in his 2022-23 season
Closed out his 2023-24 regular season on a five-match win streak
Competed at U-23 Nationals in the offseason

Guillermo Escobedo

5-foot-8, 165 pounder
From La Puente, Calif. and attended Los Altos High School
CIF State Champion is 2020
Competed at University of Wyoming for 3 seasons
Redshirted his 2021-22 season and tallied a 15-8 record
Led `Runners in his 2023-24 season with 17 wins
Won Menlo Open with a 4-0 day
Placed fifth at Pack-12 Championships

Johnathon Viveros

5-foot-9, 149 pounder
From Kingsburg, Calif. and attended Kingsburg High School
Placed seventh at State Tournament in 2020
Named KHS Team MVP
Went 9-8 in his 2023-23 season
Won by fall four times during Menlo Open
Earned a place on the Pac-12 Honor Roll
Won Menlo Open in 2023-24 with a 4-0 record
