BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – As we near closer to tip-off for the Cal State Bakersfield Men’s Basketball team, it is time that we break down the Roadrunner roster by class, starting off with the Freshmen. Bakersfield opens up the season in the Bay Area as they take on California on November 4th in the Haas Pavilion.
`Runner Freshmen
-#2 Mike Price
- 6-foot-3 guard
- From Chicago, Illinois
- A 2023 graduate from Centennial High School in Corona, Calif.
- Attended Southern California Academy in 2023-24 in a post grad year
- Earned LA News Freshman of the Year in his one season at Crespi High School
- Helped Centennial to a CIF Championship his Senior year
- Coach Barnes on Mike: "Mike is a really exciting guard, a kid that can play multiple positions… he can play off the ball and point guard. He comes from a very success program at Southern California Academy coached by Coach Julius, who I think is one of the most talented up and coming coaches in the country. We’ve followed him and really like him and think he can play both ends of the floor at a high level."
-#5 Bentley Waller
- 6-foot-4 guard
- From Bakersfield, Calif.
- Brother of teammate Kadar Waller
- A 2024 graduate from Bakersfield Christian High School
- Helped the Golden Eagles to two Valley Championships and four League Championships
- One of the top players in Kern County
- Averaged 24.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in his final year with BCHS
- Helped BCHS to a 21-12 record while going 8-0 in league play
- Finished his high school career with 1,000+ points
- Named to Cali-High District Division II First Team All-State
- Earned First Team All-Central Section, First Team All-Area, and South Yosemite Valley League MVP
- Coach Barnes on Bentley: "Really been surprised about his consistency and his work ethic. He is long for a guard; he is really athletic and has exceptional speed with good size. Working with him, he has a great upside and a lot of talent to work with."
-#11 Colin Darby
- 6-foot-7 forward
- From Frisco, Texas
- A 2024 graduate from Dynamic Prep in Frisco, Texas
- Helped lead Dynamic Prep to an impressive 23-1 record
- Went undefeated in their district (7-0)
- Averaged 6.2 points, 0.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds, 0.1 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game
- Coach Barnes on Colin: "Colin is a three kind of four guy that can shoot the basketball, he is long and rangy... he has a good IQ for the game. He will be a plus for us on both ends of the court because of his understanding of angles both offensively and defensively. He has a good chance to be a great forward for us, and I am really pleased with his versatility.”
