• The Cal State Bakersfield basketball programs are excited to host the `Runners Hoopfest, an annual event formerly known as the Blue-Gold Scrimmage. 
• The Athletics department has officially revamped the action-packed evening with a fresh new name, but the `Runners Hoopfest will once again be presented by Bakersfield Hyundai. 

`Runners Hoopfest - Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. (PT)

• All fans are welcomed inside of the Icardo Center for a free night of Bakersfield basketball!
• CSUB students can enjoy early festivities on the Harvey L. Hall Family Plaza with 'Party on the Plaza' prior to the event. CSUB Athletics will provide music and activities for entertainment prior to the basketball tipping off!  
• The `Runners Hoopfest, presented by Bakersfield Hyundai, will begin with women's basketball player introductions, a message to the crowd from first-year head coach Ari Wideman, and an intrasquad scrimmage. 
• Following the women's scrimmage, the men's team will roll with player introductions, a message from head coach Rod Barnes, and an intrasquad scrimmage of their own.   
• The event will end with a meet-and-greet opportunity for all fans. There will be an opportunity to pick up a poster to get signatures from your favorite Roadrunners! Once again, admission is free for all fans to the `Runners Hoopfest. 

• The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team is gearing up for an exciting weekend, starting with a pivotal home match against UC Davis. After that, they will travel to face UC Riverside before returning to the Icardo Center for a crucial showdown against Hawai’i on Tuesday.

 UC Davis (10-5, 5-1 BW) - Thursday, October 17th at 6:00 PM

• UC Davis is currently ranked first in the Big West Conference and has shown impressive form this season.
• With only one loss in conference play, the Aggies will be a formidable challenge for the Roadrunners.
• Historically, CSUB holds a 27-12 advantage over UC Davis, with their rivalry dating back to 1984.
• Last season, the teams split their meetings, with Bakersfield managing to secure one victory, adding extra motivation to this matchup.
• Make sure to come out for Pride Night and support the runners on the court.

UC Riverside  (5-14, 0-6 BW) - Saturday, October 19th at 4:00 PM

• The Highlanders have significantly struggled this season and sit at the bottom of the conference with an 0-6 conference record.
• Their last win came in a non-conference match, underscoring their challenges in league play.
• However, UC Riverside has historically led the series against CSUB, 37-35. Both teams split their meetings last season, making this matchup an opportunity for Bakersfield to even the score while aiming for a much-needed victory.

Hawai’i (10-6, 4-2 BW) - Tuesday, October 22nd at 6:00 PM

• Hawai’i is another strong contender in the Big West, having finished at the top of the league last season.
• With a solid conference record, they recently gained momentum by defeating Long Beach State, showcasing their ability to compete at a high level. CSUB will face a tough test against the Rainbow Wahine, known for their skill and competitive spirit.
• The Roadrunners will need to bring their best game to secure a victory and make a statement as they approach the midpoint of the conference season.
• As Bakersfield looks ahead to this week's matches, their focus will be on startingstrong against UC Davis, capitalizing on the opportunity against a struggling UC Riverside, and preparing for a significant challenge against Hawai’i. These matches are critical as they aim to build momentum and improve their standing in the conference.

• The Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team continued its undefeated start to Big West play with another draw and a win this week, putting itself into a three-way tie for first place with #23 UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.
• The Roadrunners got off to a solid start earlier this season and they have really turned it on recently, currently riding a five-match unbeaten streak.
• Goalkeeper Zenden Hart put together an outstanding pair of games this week, limiting two of the league's best offenses to just one goal apiece while making four athletic saves in each match.
• While CSUB picked up a pair of results at home this week, the `Runners have an impressive record of 7-3-5 over the team's last 15 road games.
• Connor Mautino made the case for his second Big West Offensive Player of the Week honor last week, tallying nine points on four goals and one assist.
• CSUB (5-2-4, 2-0-2 BW) will continue Big West play next week with two more tough matchups:

CSUB at UC Irvine  (4-7-1, 1-3-0 BW)

• UC Irvine finished second in the 2023 Big West standings, but sits in eighth heading into this week's matches on a two-game losing streak.
• Over the all-time series, UCSB leads CSUB 8-2-0, but the `Runners got the best of the Anteaters last year in Bakersfield.
• Irvine is 2-1-0 against CSUB since Bakersfield's inaugural season in The Big West in 2021.
• A year ago, in front of 2,500 students on Education Day, CSUB scored a pair of second-half goals (Adrian Jogerst and Connor Mautino) on the way to a 2-0 victory over UCI.

CSUB vs. UC San Diego (3-6-4, 2-2-0 BW)

• Bakersfield, Calif. / Main Soccer Field
• UC San Diego has fully completed its transition into NCAA Division I and, for the first time this season, is now eligible for postseason play.
• The Tritons sit in fifth place as of today, putting them in prime position for one of the six spots in the Big West Championships.
• UCSD has a slight edge in the all-time series over CSUB, 7-6-1.
• Since the two teams joined The Big West in 2021, the Tritons have won two of three against the `Runners, including each of the last two.
• The 2023 edition of the matchup featured UCSD earning a 1-0 victory over CSUB.
• Last year in La Jolla, Calif., the Tritons scored with 34 seconds left in the match to steal three points from the match.

•  The Roadrunners will face off against UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, then face off against Cal Poly on Sunday.

• The Cal State Bakersfield Cross Country program will travel up to Northern California for the Bronco Invitational hosted by Santa Clara University. 
• The Baylands Park course is one of the most competitive meets in the country and historically a meet where athletes run fast due to it's mainly flat ground with a few rolling hills. 

CSUB at Bronco Invitational - Saturday, Oct. 19 at 9:30 AM

• Bakersfield native and newcomer Rain Gomez has led the team all season during practices and race day. Gomez currently holds the CSUB 4k record and dipped into the #10 all-time spot in school history for the 6k two weeks ago at the Master's Invitational. 
• Neyda Martinez has shown excellent improvement this season and has been executing training, she is joined by newcomer Crystal Torrecillas as the #2 and #3 runners for the Roadrunners. 
• Valerie Garcia, Jayden Reyes-Sarmiento, and Alicia Murralles round out the top 5 for CSUB. 
• With lots of competition in the race, the `Runners will have an opportunity to compete for fast results.

• Women’s golf is back on the road after a couple weeks off, this time in Boulder City, Nevada on October 20th–22nd.
• The Roadrunners return to Boulder City for The Clash at Boulder Creek for the second consecutive year, hosted by Northern Arizona University.

• In 2023, Bakersfield placed 16th out of the 19 teams competing.
  • The Roadrunners look to improve upon last year’s performance and upon the recent success they have found in the two early season tournaments.
  • Bakersfield has reset a handful of records already in 2024, including resetting the 36-hole Tournament score at the Eagle Invitational and Anna Kehrer resetting the CSUB debut record (+2).
• Sarah Mutai and Irish Han both pace the Roadrunner golf team thus far into the 2024 season, averaging just around 74 strokes per round.
  • Kehrer sits just three strokes behind Mutai and Han at 77.
