• The Cal State Bakersfield men's soccer team continued its undefeated start to Big West play with another draw and a win this week, putting itself into a three-way tie for first place with #23 UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly.
• The Roadrunners got off to a solid start earlier this season and they have really turned it on recently, currently riding a five-match unbeaten streak.
• Goalkeeper Zenden Hart put together an outstanding pair of games this week, limiting two of the league's best offenses to just one goal apiece while making four athletic saves in each match.
• While CSUB picked up a pair of results at home this week, the `Runners have an impressive record of 7-3-5 over the team's last 15 road games.
• Connor Mautino made the case for his second Big West Offensive Player of the Week honor last week, tallying nine points on four goals and one assist.
  • CSUB (5-2-4, 2-0-2 BW) will continue Big West play next week with two more tough matchups:Oct. 16 – at UC Irvine (4-7-1, 1-3-0 BW) 
  • Oct. 19 – vs. UC San Diego (3-6-4, 2-2-0 BW)

CSUB 1, #23 UC Santa Barbara 1

• The `Runners continued Big West play with a hard-fought tie against the league's only team in the NCAA Top 25.
• UC Santa Barbara sent a barrage of crosses into the Bakersfield box throughout the match. The CSUB backline bent, but never broke, as centerback Sinan Solmaz headed away well over half a dozen potential goal-scoring opportunities.
• CSUB survived the onslaught in the opening period, and put away one of their few chances on goal when team captain Bryson Hankins headed home his first goal of the season with just 56 seconds remaining.
• Five minutes into the second period, UCSB's relenting pressure finally paid off as Alexis Ledoux, the Big West's most dangerous offensive weapon, tallied his league-leading 10th goal of the season.
• The two teams battled all the way to the final whistle in a physical contest that saw five yellow cards handed out, but the `Runners continued to deny every attempt the Gauchos made to break the tie.
• Goalkeeper Zenden Hart recorded four athletic saves while limiting UCSB to just the single score, well below the Gauchos' 2.00 goals per game average, while helping CSUB earn a vital point for the league standings.

CSUB 2, CSUN 1

• Cal State Bakersfield used a 2-0 halftime advantage to pick up three more points in a hard-fought victory.
• The `Runners broke through for a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute when senior Bilal Mihoubi netted his first goal of the season.
• With 21 seconds remaining in the first half, fellow senior Connor Mautino buried his team-high eighth goal of the season, which ties for fourth in CSUB's Division I history for a single season.
• Fifteen minutes into the second period, CSUN answered back with a goal, putting the `Runners back into high alert.
• Bakersfield continue to battle and held off the Matadors in another chippy match, which saw six yellow cards handed out, three for each team.
• Zenden Hart proved to be clutch once again in the goal, making four more saves against CSUN while allowing just the single tally. 
• Since CSUB's 3-2 victory at No. 18 Portland on Sept. 5, Hart has enjoyed seeing his Goals Against Average drop from 1.62 to 1.22, ranking him third among all Big West goalies.

• The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners played a rigorous non-conference schedule to be ready for Big West play:
  • Opened the season against the San Diego State Aztecs in front of 1,966 fans. 
  • Faced off against #17-ranked Texas, where goalkeeper Hollee Hercik reset CSUB’s Division I record with 15 saves in a Bakersfield match against Texas.
• Senior Karen Flores leads the team in goals with 4 total.
• Bakersfield native Gia Valenti scored her first goal as a Roadrunner on Senior Night.
• Miah Thomas scored her first collegiate goal and game-winner against UC Davis.
• Hollee Hercik tops Jordan Bertram and is now third in CSUB's all-time rankings for career saves at 200 and counting.
• Cal State Bakersfield women’s soccer team took down reigning Big West champions UC Irvine with a thrilling 1-0 victory 

CSUB 1, UC Irvine 0

• Kimberly Garcia scored her second season goal, assisted by Solei Moton and Catalina Roggerone, in the second half to help the Roadrunners secure the win. 
• Defenders Mya Clarke, Anela Nigito, and Megan Ormson played exceptional defense in the full 90 minutes of the game.
• This win made it the first victory over the UC Irvine Anteaters in program history.
• The victory extended CSUB's unbeaten streak to four games, the longest in program history. 

 Long Beach State 1, CSUB 0

• The `Runners battled out a tough game against Long Beach State.
• After almost a scoreless game Long Beach netted a tough last-minute goal in the 85th minute.
• Both teams almost had identical stats to finish the game as this proved a very equal gritty game for both teams.

• The Cal State Bakersfield volleyball team faced a challenging weekend in the Icardo Center, suffering losses in both of their conference matches despite entering with a promising 3-1 record. 
• This weekend highlighted individual performances that stood out, particularly from Sydney Dunning and Valentina Sarti Cipriani.

UC San Diego 3, CSUB 1 

• In their first match against UC San Diego, Bakersfield put up a strong fight but narrowly lost the opening set 25-23.
• The team quickly regrouped in set two, showcasing impressive teamwork and resilience as they surged to a 25-15 victory. Cipriani was particularly impressive, hitting an outstanding .750 with three kills in that set.
• Despite the momentum, Bakersfield faced tough competition in the subsequent sets. They battled hard in the third set, ultimately falling 27-25 in a closely contested finish, and struggled in the final set, which ended 25-21 in favor of the Tritons.
• Throughout the match, Dunning played a crucial role, contributing a team-high 13 kills and adding six digs, underscoring her offensive capabilities.

 Long Beach 3,  CSUB 1

• Bakersfield faced another tough opponent in Long Beach State, and they began the match on a high note, winning the first set 25-21.
• Dunning continued to shine, hitting .400 with five kills, helping the team establish early momentum. However, the Beach, who entered the match with a solid 4-1 conference record, quickly regained their footing.
• As the match progressed, Bakersfield struggled to keep pace, ultimately losing the next three sets. Cipriani led the team offensively in this match as well, finishing with 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .333.

• While the weekend results were disappointing, both Dunning and Cipriani's performances highlight the potential and talent within the team. 
• As they move forward, the Roadrunners will look to build on these individual successes and improve their team dynamics for upcoming matches. 
• The `Runners will be back this Thursday night in the Icardo Center for Pride Night, the game will begin at 7 and doors open at 6.

• Coming off a highly-successful 2023-24 campaign, the Cal State Bakersfield men's and women's swimming and diving teams kicked off the 2024-25 season with a solid start.
• Bakersfield hosted its annual kickoff meets, the CSUB Sprint Classic and the Roadrunner Invite, at the Hillman Aquatic Center.
• The 2024 version of these Opening Weekend meets were the largest in several years with eight strong teams competing at CSUB.
• The `Runners enjoyed a strong set of first results from across the squad, highlighted by reigning conference Swimmer of the Year Vili Sivec on the men's side and trio of veterans on the women's squad.
• CSUB will take the next couple weeks to train before heading to Stockton, Calif. on Nov. 2, for the team's first dual meet of the year against Pacific.

CSUB Spring Classic

• The `Runners launched the 2024-25 season with a solid set times and scores on Friday.
• Vili Sivec won a pair of events, including the 100 Butterfly as well as the 50 Butterfly. The latter race actually finished tied for the overall lead with fellow `Runner Yigit Saglam touching the wall with the exact same time as Sivec in a thrilling final heat.
• Sivec, not rested, nor shaved, nor in a tech suit, posted several times throughout the weekend that have him well on track with his goals of representing CSUB at the NCAA Championships later this season.
• Fellow junior Arthur Amaral Schneider showed out in the 1000 Freestyle, the only non-sprint of the day, placing fourth overall in a stacked field.
• Sophomore Josiane Hill posted a pair of Top 3 finishes in the 100 Backstroke and the 100 Fly.
• Senior Lorena Jerebic placed Top 7 in both the 50 Fly and the 100 Fly.
• Senior diver Dyson Modica opened his season with a solid score of 288.90 points, placing third overall.

Roadrunner Invite

• Vili Sivec continued to impress on Day 2 of Opening Weekend, picking up another pair of victories on Saturday. The Croatian National Record holder showed his prowess while winning the 200 Fly as well as the 100 Free.
• Lorena Jerebic put together another set of strong swims, including a third-place finish in the women's 200 Fly.
• Fellow senior Jessica Franco finished Top 8 in the 200 Free.
• Sophomore CJ Manuel looked to be in end-season form, placing Top 8 in both the 200 Back and the 200 Free.
