BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield basketball programs are excited to host the `Runners Hoopfest, an annual event formerly known as the Blue-Gold Scrimmage. The Athletics department has officially revamped the action-packed evening with a fresh new name, but the `Runners Hoopfest will once again be presented by Bakersfield Hyundai. On Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 6:30 p.m. (PT), all fans are welcomed inside of the Icardo Center for a free night of Bakersfield basketball.
CSUB students can enjoy early festivities on the Harvey L. Hall Family Plaza with 'Party on the Plaza' prior to the event. CSUB Athletics will provide music and activities for entertainment prior to the basketball tipping off!
The `Runners Hoopfest, presented by Bakersfield Hyundai, will begin with women's basketball player introductions, a message to the crowd from first-year head coach Ari Wideman, and an intrasquad scrimmage.
Following the women's scrimmage, the men's team will roll with player introductions, a message from head coach Rod Barnes, and an intrasquad scrimmage of their own.
The event will end with a meet-and-greet opportunity for all fans. There will be an opportunity to pick up a poster to get signatures from your favorite Roadrunners! Once again, admission is free for all fans to the `Runners Hoopfest.
Bakersfield Hyundai Car Giveaway
Back once again as a generous sponsor of the event, Bakersfield Hyundai will be offering fans an opportunity to win a brand-new car! A tough golf challenge is scheduled during the event and one big winner could have a shiny Hyundai to park in their garage. Eligible contestants over the age of 18 will be selected randomly and they must be present to win.
Student Prizes and Activities
CSUB students are invited to join us on the Harvey L. Hall Family Plaza at 5:30 p.m. for a Party in the Plaza! Students will enjoy music and games prior to the event tipping off at 6:30 p.m.
There is also a student involvement opportunity with the teams' three-point shooting contests. Students should sign up for a chance to be represented by one of the `Runner basketball players. If your player wins, you win. The prizes are $500 shopping sprees at Under Armour!
Lastly, CSUB students are encouraged to help bring the energy in the Icardo Center while meeting the teams up close and personal. Come on down and be part of the Student Fan Tunnel; check the CSUB Athletics social media accounts for more information.
