Wangusi Voted Big West Freshman of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. – Cal State Bakersfield midfielder Jesse Wangusi was voted Big West Freshman of the Week on Monday afternoon. Wangusi, who joined the Roadrunner squad just after the start of the 2023 season, has started to find his place in the rotation and made a big impact this week.

Wangusi saw his first minutes of action in Bakersfield's 1-0 road win against San Francisco this past Thursday. The native of Milton Keynes, England then showed out in Bakersfield's 6-1 victory against Fresno Pacific on Sunday. Wangusi broke away from the Sunbird back line and beat the FPU goalkeeper with a nifty finish to the bottom left corner of the goal.

Scoring his first collegiate goal, Wangusi marked a tally in the box score in just his second collegiate contest. The 6-foot-2 midfielder continues to get up to speed with the Bakersfield system and will likely make a big impact on Interim Head Coach Adam Grant's squad as the season progresses.

Cal State Bakersfield (2-1-2) rides a two-match winning streak into a five-game road stretch. The `Runners will head off to play Utah Tech and UNLV this week.
