CSUB Athletics Shifts Fundraising Strategy, Launches Roadrunner Club

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield Athletics Department announced a strategic shift in its approach to fundraising on Tuesday. In conjunction with the University Advancement office, Associate Athletics Director for Development Sarah Tuohy has changed course in the former Roadrunner Scholarship Fund's methodology, rebranding and refocusing the fund as the Roadrunner Club.
The Roadrunner Club, originally established in 1972, gives CSUB Athletics the opportunity to better serve the direct needs of its student-athletes.

"My hope is that community members can help us honor CSUB's historic past and prepare us for an even brighter future," Tuohy said. "By joining the Roadrunner Club, you are directly investing in CSUB Athletics and our 300+ student-athletes. The Roadrunner Scholarship Fund (RSF) has long served CSUB Athletics by directly benefiting each of Cal State Bakersfield's teams through scholarships."

"The tremendous impact that these funds have on the lives of our `Runners has been seen time and time again, and thus CSUB Athletics will always continue to push for these financial opportunities. The Roadrunner Club will shift its focus to a centralized model of aiding the Athletics Department as a whole."

The Roadrunner Club will utilize donations in alignment with CSUB Athletics' Four Pillars:

#1 – Academic Excellence will be bolstered by foundational investment into student-athlete scholarships.
#2 – Our `Runners will continue to receive an Outstanding Student-Athlete Experience through enhanced programming from the `Runner Ready Life Skills Program as well as the Athletics Department's Fueling Stations.
#3 – Competitive Success will remain a central focus as the Roadrunner Club looks to provide funds to enhance recruiting, travel, and operational budgets as well as facility upgrades.
#4 – Alumni events and community events will be improved and increased as investments into Community Engagement are furthered.

"In the past 30 years the costs of athletic scholarships have nearly tripled, the cost for teams to travel and recruit have increased, and maintaining an outstanding student-athlete experience remains a priority," Tuohy added.

"As CSUB Athletics and the Roadrunner Club launches into the 2023-24 academic year, we ask that you consider donating to one of the greatest causes that exists: investing in the further education and future success of a student-athlete."
