James Bell Stays Hot; `Runners Drop Series Finale

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team may have lost the battle, but they won the war. Bakersfield played a great game to hold off the Riverside Highlanders, but UCR got the upper hand by the end of the game. Riverside out hit Bakersfield 15 hits to 13, which help result in a two run lead victory Bakersfield late.

  • In the third inning UC Riverside got on the board early with two runs, scoring Jacob Shanks off of Anthony Mcfarland's double and Tyler Weaver off of Dominic Martinez fly out to right field. 
  • CSUB trailed right behind Highlanders in the third inning, scoring six runs to grab the lead. Starting the `Runners off was Mathew Kurata's fly to center field scoring Cody Hendriks. One of those was a two-run home run from Jacob Ruley. Michael Pollard singled to right field, scoring Nick Salas and Konnor Palmeira.
  • Riverside bounced right back for the next following inning, coming out on top, 8 – 6 by the end of the series.

  • Today was a disappointing day. After a big 6 run inning early, we were unable to add on throughout the ballgame.
  • They are competed us in the middle innings and late innings.
  • Our pitchers fell behind in too many counts and they capitalized with solid contact throughout the game.
  • It's nice to get the series win, but we were not satisfied with that today's game.
