Women's Basketball Officially Welcomes Three Recruits

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield women's basketball team is proud to officially welcome three recruits who are committed to the program for Fall 2023. Head Coach Greg McCall and his staff were able to secure Amourie Porter, one of Maryland's best high school ballers of the last two years, Jordan Brooks, a big center from Victor Valley College, and Jordan Olivares, a transfer guard from Sacramento State.

Quotes from Head Coach Greg McCall
  • On Amourie Porter: "Amourie is a very explosive and strong player. She is going to help us out on both ends of the floor. She can do things at all three levels: get to the basket, shoot in the mid-range area, and hit the three-ball as well."
  • On Jordan Brooks: "She's a 'big' that we needed who is capable of averaging a double-double, which is what she did at the JC-level. We're hoping for her to do some similar work here."
  • On Jordan Olivares: "She is a very experienced player, just coming off a team that went to the NCAA tournament. We're excited for her to come in and be another experienced veteran who can hit down open shots and play hard on both ends of the court."

  • Guard
  • 5-foot-10
  • From Glen Burnie, Md.
  • A combo-guard, Porter was a highly touted AAU prospect coming into high school, recruited by a number of Maryland's best prep basketball schools.
  • In her time at Glen Burnie, she helped turn the program around in a flash, as her high school team went from just one win the year before she attended to becoming the best team in that program's history being within two wins of a state championship by the time her high school career was over.
    • Porter scored and played at a roaring pace in 2022, averaging a double-double per game with 19.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game along with 4.4 steals.
    • Her accomplishments with Glen Burnie led to her being awarded County Player of the Year and Baltimore Sun First-Team All-Conference honors in 2022.
    • A career 3.9 GPA student, Amourie will attend Cal State Bakersfield as a kinesiology major. She wants to help CSUB do the same thing she accomplished at her high school: build the program into a powerhouse.

Jordan Brooks
  • Center
  • 6-foot-3
  • From Oak Hills, Calif.
  • Jordan will come to CSUB as one of the team's tallest players upon arrival, filling the much-desired role of "big" in Greg McCall's upstart offense.
  • Brooks had a storybook ending to her two years at Victory Valley College, helping the Rams to their first conference title since 1997. She helped secure the title with a 26-point performance in the clinching game.
    • Playing all 22 games of VVC's season, Brooks shot an astounding 58.5% from the field for an average of 21.5 points per game.
    • She also averaged almost a double-double per game with 9.7 rebounds despite playing just 19.1 minutes per game.
    • As a two-way player underneath the basket, Brooks was dangerous on the defensive side of the ball as well. She tallied 49 blocks and 32 steals in 2022.

Jordan Olivares
  • Guard
  • 5-foot-8
  • From Seaside, Calif.
  • Jordan Olivares comes to CSUB as a needed veteran presence at the guard spot. On top of her three years of experience with Sacramento State, Olivares comes with playoff games under her belt, as she helped the Hornets to an NCAA Tournament Appearance in 2022.
  • Olivares is a star not only on the court but off as well. She has been a Big Sky All-Academic honoree for the past two years while playing an important starting role at Sacramento State.
    • Olivares started 11 games while playing an average of 18.7 minutes per game, still managing to total 117 rebounds and 23 steals on the season.
    • In the Big Sky title clinching game against Northern Arizona, Jordan exploded for a massive 26-point, 7-rebound effort in Sacramento State's 76-63 victory.
    • Despite her size, she is a tenacious and relentless attacker on all areas of the floor, which is evident in her ability to come up clutch in big moments.
