CSUB Stuns No. 1 UC Irvine in 2OT, Advances to Semi's

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – For the second time in four days, the Cal State Bakersfield women's basketball team faced UC Irvine, this time in the Hercules Tires Big West Basketball Championship Quarterfinals presented by The Hawaiian Islands. The Roadrunners pulled off what many thought was improbable, sending No. 1 UC Irvine packing in a double-overtime nail biter that saw CSUB take the 61-59 victory on a Taylor Caldwell jumper.

Notables
  • Kayla Morris got CSUB off to an amazing start that allowed the `Runners to jump out and stall the Anteaters. She scored Bakersfield's first 8 points and led the team with 7-of-12 made field goals for 18 points by the final buzzer.

  • Garrisen Freeman was massively important in dictating pace from the point, as CSUB utilized a patient, focused game to advance to its first Big West Semifinal, just three years after joining the conference.
  • Despite being outrebounded as a team, CSUB had Hennie van Schaik come to the rescue on many occasions. She ended with a career high 14 rebounds in helping the `Runners advance to the Semifinals.
