CSUB Drops Both Games Versus Ohio State

Bakersfield, CA – The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team dropped Game 1 of today's doubleheader as 15 walks from the CSUB pitching staff allowed Ohio State several scoring opportunities.

Ohio State 19, CSUB 6
  • CSUB broke through early, getting out to a 3 – 0 lead in the first inning.
  • OSU tacked on four in the second inning to go up 4 – 3.
  • In the top of the sixth inning, with two outs, the Roadrunners were unable to get out of the inning. Ohio State began to pour it on, plating five on three hits.
  • The Buckeyes put this game out of reach in the ninth inning. Bringing in seven runs on five hits, they were able to take advantage of walks and an error.

Ohio State 9, CSUB 5
  • Konnor Palmeira lined single up the middle off the Ohio State pitcher's foot and tied the game 1 - 1 plating Matt Kurata in the second inning.
  • The Buckeyes struck for two on a two-RBI double in the top of the fourth to break the tie.
  • Bakersfield would get back on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning. Kyler Stancato singled through the right-side scoring Michael Pollard and Connor Kulp.
  • Palmeira and Kurata both had nice days at the plate in Game 2, both going 2-for-3.
Quotes for Jeremy Beard
  • Our ability to attack the zone throughout the series, proved to be the major difference. We expect more out of our staff and ball club. They were disciplined hitters, and took advantage of our inability to throw competitive strikes.
  • We played two very good baseball programs to finish out our preseason schedule. We were exposed in some areas and we will need to get right back to work to prepare for conference.
