Brown Extends Win Streak to Six, but CSUB falls to Poly

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – In front of a sizable home crowd of 554, the Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team hosted the Cal Poly Mustangs for the first of four straight home duals at the Icardo Center. Despite an incredible win by Josh Brown against the No. 17 in his weight class, and a few other solid individual victories, the Roadrunners fell to Cal Poly 22-12 after two decisive sudden victories at the end of the evening. CSUB will now have a quick two-day turnaround to host Little Rock on Sunday.

Notables
  • Josh Brown extended his winning streak to six straight after pulling off the 7-6 decision upset against Cal Poly's No. 17 Dom Demas. Brown was in control for most of the bout and scored a few key takedowns early before defending his lead in the final period to take the victory.
  • After Brown's first ranked victory, Poly took the next two with a decision against Brock Rogers and a major decision against Braden Smelser. CSUB inched closer to the Cal Poly lead when Albert Urias scored a decisive 7-3.
  • Jacob Hansen was defeated via decision and Jake Andrews was pinned in the first period, but after each of those defeats, CSUB responded well with Mateo Morales getting the 12-7 decision and Eddie Flores holding off his Cal Poly counterpart for the 5-3 decision.
  • CSUB had the opportunity to secure victory with decisions in both of the next two bouts thanks to the response from Morales and Flores. However, Chance Rich and Angelo Martinoni were both defeated via sudden victory to seal Cal Poly's victory.
 Up Next on the Schedule
  • CSUB stays home for the second of four home duals, this time against Little Rock. What was supposed to originally "Feud on the Field" will now take place indoors at the Icardo Center due to worries over weather.
