CSUB Volleyball Welcomes Penny Tusa to Coaching Staff

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield volleyball program has rounded out its coaching staff after Head Coach Giovana Melo announced the hiring of Penny Tusa on Tuesday. Tusa joins the Roadrunners as an Assistant Coach this Spring as CSUB continues to prepare for the upcoming 2023 season this Fall.

"We are extremely excited to add Penny to our program," Melo said of the newest addition to the `Runners. "She has played at a high level and has a lot of knowledge of the game. However, what I loved the most about Penny is her natural ability to connect with people. She is just genuine, loyal, dedicated, and very eager to learn. She is going to be a great addition to our family."

Tusa was a five-year impact student-athlete for the Washington State Cougars on the way to becoming the program's all-time aces leader. She graduated in 2021 after completing her most effective season while helping the Cougars to a 20-12 record and the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

After wrapping up her collegiate career, Tusa moved to Texas where she has been a Graduate Assistant Coach for Texas Women's University. She has also gained valuable experience coaching with the Texas Advantage Volleyball Club, a highly-competitive travel club.

"I'm truthfully honored and blessed to be a part of the CSUB volleyball program," Tusa said. "I can't thank Giovana and Stevi [Robinson-Trail] enough for giving me the opportunity to give back to the sport that gave me everything I ever needed in this life and more!"

"I am excited to continue doing what I love and work besides some amazing human beings," Tusa added. "Thank you, CSUB, for welcoming me to the 'Ramily'. Go `Runners!"

Just this past November, Tusa was a 2022 recipient of the AVCA Diversity Award. She was one of "18 up-and-coming leaders" invited to attend the annual AVCA convention in Omaha, Neb. to participate in educational seminars and relationship-building experiences.
