Eastern Arizona Infielder Inks NLI with Roadrunner Softball

Bakersfield, Calif. – Eastern Arizona College sophomore slugger and middle infielder Savannah Clausen has signed her National Letter of Intent to attend Cal State Bakersfield and compete for the softball team, beginning in the fall of 2023. Clausen is a native of Arvada, Colo., and will join the Roadrunners with two years of eligibility remaining.

"Savannah is a hard-nosed athlete, with the talent and approach to make an immediate impact on both sides of the ball," said CSUB Head Coach Dan Sperl. "She is a rangy and athletic defender up the middle, with speed, raw power, and a tremendous hit tool that should allow her to contribute in several different ways offensively.

Through 18 games played, Clausen is hitting a team-best .544, and boasts a .982 slugging-percentage thanks to four doubles and seven home runs. She's scored 18 runs, while driving in 31 more, and is a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts while leading the Gila Monsters to a 10-10 record in the early going.

A season ago, Clausen slashed .487/.497/.980, with 36 extra-base hits, including 18 home runs. She posted 74 hits in 45 outings, driving in 65 runs, scoring 40 times and striking out just ten times. Clausen earned All-Conference and All-Region honors for her efforts as a freshman at EAC. She was named EAC Female Athlete of the Year, after leading her team to a 43-14 record and a trip to the NJCAA Regional Semi-Final.

Prior to EAC, Clausen was a four-year starter at Arvada West High School in Arvada, Colo., where she hit .495 in 88 career games played, with 35 doubles, 12 triples and 20 home runs. Clausen hit better than .500 in each of her last three seasons with the Wildcats, closing out her career with 122 RBI and 70 runs scored.

Clausen was a four-time All-League selection at A-West, also earning Colorado High School Scholastic Athletic Association All-State Honorable Mention accolades as a junior and senior.

"CSUB is a great place for me to spend the final two years of my softball career," Clausen explained. "The university and the city of Bakersfield checked all the boxes I was looking for, and I feel this is the place that will allow me to grow as a player."

Savannah is the daughter of Kaycee & Messina Clausen, and has one sister, Morgan, a First-Team All-Atlantic Sun pitcher for North Florida in 2022.  She plans to study psychology at CSUB.
