BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield baseball team closed out their first day of double headers with back-to-back wins. The Bakersfield Roadrunners beat the Manhattan Jaspers 15 - 4. This win was a team effort with highlights all around, with
James Bell hitting a Grand Slam which was the `Runners first homerun of the year. In Game 2, the game was held closer, but
Jeter Schuerman shined striking out ten Manhattan batters.
Manhattan 4, CSUB 15
- The `Runners got the party started early scoring six runs on four hits. Bakersfield was able to take advantage of three hit batters and one error.
- In the bottom of the third, the Roadrunners were threatening with runners on again. Designated Hitter, James Bell, came up with bases loaded and made the Jaspers pay. Bell hit a Grand Slam to left center field putting CSUB up 10-0.
- In the top of the fourth, Manhattan answered back with a three-run home run of their own.
- The homerun did not phase the Roadrunners, as they added more runs in the bottom of the frame. Kyler Stancato singled to right field bringing in Angel Saldivar. Later in the same inning Michael Pollard tripled to right field, scoring Konnor Palmeira making the score 12 – 4.
- Riley Kasper doubled down the left field bringing in Stancato. Bell added to his RBI total (6) with a SAC fly plating Nick Salas. Bakersfield's offense generated enough runs to enact the run rule.
Manhattan 0, CSUB 3
- In the top of the first, Schuerman came out hot striking out two batters quickly on seven pitches.
- In the bottom of the frame, Bakersfield went up 1 – 0 early with a Bell SAC fly to center field plating Nick Salas.
- Not much offense came out of this game till the fifth inning where Kasper doubled to right field bringing in Walker Moore, who reached base on a throwing error. Putting the `Runners in front 2 – 0.
- Bakersfield added an insurance run in the sixth inning as Palmeira singled to left bringing home Saldivar.
- Schuerman finished his night going six total innings and striking out ten Manhattan batters on 97 pitches. Davonte Butler replaced Schuerman in the seventh inning and shut the door on the Jaspers earning the save.
