Las Vegas Backstop Signs with CSUB Softball

Bakersfield – Catcher and Corner Infielder Abryanna Newcomb, a native of Las Vegas, Nev., has signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Cal State Bakersfield Softball team in the Fall of 2023. Newcomb attends Arbor View High School and also competes with the nationally competitive Bengals 18 Gold team, at the highest levels of PGF Softball.

"Abby is a solid and dependable backstop with additional positional versatility," said Head Coach Dan Sperl. "She has a short quick stroke, with a proven ability to turn around elite pitching at the club level. Abby will add impact to an already deep, talented and impactful recruiting class for next season."

A strong defensive catcher, Newcomb has committed just two errors over three full high school seasons with the Aggies. At the plate, she boasts 15 career extra-base hits, including three home runs in 132 plate appearances and sports a career on-base plus slugging percentage of .829.

Newcomb earned All-Class 5A Mountain League honors at catcher in 2021, leading Arbor View to the 5A Southern Nevada Championship as a sophomore.

She played travel softball with Explosion Denio in the summer of 2022, leading the club to the PGF National Championship event last July before transitioning to the Bengals, where she plays with fellow Roadrunner Softball signee Kayelin Lebo.

"Choosing CSUB was easy for me," Newcomb explained. "The environment, the players, the coaches and the campus all made Bakersfield feel like a second home. I couldn't be happier with my choice, and my dreams as a little girl have now come true with this opportunity to represent such an amazing school."

Abryanna is the daughter of Travis and Amber Newcomb and has two brothers Braxtyn and Camdyn. She plans to major in Business while playing for Cal State Bakersfield.
