BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Cal State Bakersfield track and field program added new signee, Makiah Parker this week. The addition to the team is one of the best athletes in Germany and the Roadrunners look forward to having her join the team in Bakersfield.
"Makiah is a huge addition to our program! She is a great all-around sprinter and is evidenced by her times in the 100 up to the 800", assistant coach Joshua Biagtan said regarding the new addition to the team. "She is just scratching the surface of her abilities and she is also a gifted athlete."
Makiah is one of the best sprinters in Europe, joining Bakersfield from Wiesbaden, Germany. She won the DoDEA European Track & Field Championships in the 100 meters (11.94), 200 meters (24.80), and 400 meters (57.44). She clocked in a personal best in all the events at the championship meet. Those times were all near European records, two (100m and 200m) of which have lasted over 40 years. Parker is versatile across the board; she has even run a 2:24 in the 800 meters.
Biagtan went onto say, "She is super competitive and extremely goal driven and will contribute to our program in many ways. Makiah has the attitude and mindset that we are looking for as we look to set the identity of our sprint group for the future. We are excited to have her join our family!"
