Wrestling Announces 2023-2024 Schedule

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Luke Smith, Head Coach of the Cal State Bakersfield Wrestling team, announced the Roadrunners' 2023-24 schedule on Tuesday, which multiple marquee home matches, Pac-12 duals, and a trip to the NCAA Championships up for grabs.

The `Runners kick off the 2023-24 season Saturday, Nov. 4, when CSUB tackles the Menlo Open. The same week, Bakersfield will play host to Wyoming as they open up their home slate in the Icardo Center.

Bakersfield will then host the annual Roadrunner Open on Nov. 19. With no competitions scheduled for the rest of November, the `Runners will get the chance for some fine tuning before going on the road for the perennially-tough Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas.

"I like our schedule this season," Smith said, heading into his fifth season at the helm of the `Runners. "There is a good balance of teams from around the country. We are really looking forward to hosting the Chippewa Challenge in January. It should be a fun event for the fans."

Heading into the New Year, CSUB will have the opportunity to host the third-annual Chippewa Challenge, featuring Central Michigan, American and Campbell in an all-day tournament. The event ties together several coaches from the Central Michigan coaching tree, including Smith's Head Coach from his time as a Chippewa, Tom Borrelli.

Bakersfield will wrap up their home event schedule during that weekend in January before heading on the road for the rest of the season.

"I'm excited to watch our big incoming class in action," Smith added. "There will be some new faces in the lineup including Wyoming transfer Guillermo Escobedo. Guillermo has looked good this preseason and I think he's going to surprise a lot of people."

Closing out the season, CSUB will compete in the Pac-12 Championships held on Mar. 10 in Corvallis, Ore. The 2023 national tournament will be hosted in Kansas City, Mo., Mar. 21-24, where Bakersfield hopes to extend its active streak of 50 consecutive seasons of sending at least one `Runner to the NCAA Championships.
