Athletic Outfielder Inks NLI with Bakersfield Softball

Bakersfield, Calif. – Outfielder Hailey Brooks, a three-sport standout at Mossyrock High School in Mossyrock, Wash., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Cal State Bakersfield, beginning in the Fall of 2023. Brooks also stars for the Northwest Bullets 18G Campos club team, one of the premier travel softball programs in the country and a consistent contender for PGF National Championships.

"Hailey is a tremendous athlete with the potential to be special on the softball field when she focuses singularly on the sport at the Division I level," said CSUB Head Softball Coach Daniel Sperl. "She's rangy and intelligent in the outfield, getting good reads off the bat with the speed track down balls in the gaps. At the plate she brings a plus hit tool and great bat speed, with the ability to add even more power as she grows. Hailey is a leader with a great personality, and she'll fit seamlessly into our team and culture."

Brooks has hit .612 over three seasons and 50 career high school games, with a .744 on-base percentage, a 1.372 slugging percentage, 17 doubles, 15 triples and 17 home runs. She has walked 55 times and been hit by a pitch on 20 more occasions, while striking out just nine times in 129 career at bats.

She slashed .529/.624/.971 as an eighth grader for Morton/White Pass High School, with 17 extra-base hits, 23 RBI and 50 runs scored to earn First-Team All-League and All-State honors in Washington's 2B Division.

Brooks lost her freshman season at Mossyrock to COVID-19, before hitting .696 with a 2.778 on-base plus slugging percentage as a sophomore in 2021. For her efforts, Brooks was named 1B Columbia Valley/Coastal League MVP and as a Daily Chronicle All-Area selection.

As a junior, the right-handed outfielder hit a career-best .722, with seven doubles, seven triples and six home runs in just 36 at bats to garner an All-League Co-MVP accolade, and a spot on the All-Area team. Brooks also walked 22 times, with opposing pitchers issuing her a free pass in 44% of her total plate appearances last season.

Brooks plays club ball for the Northwest Bullets and coaches Tony Campos and Dennis Muir, helping the team to a 3rd-Place finish at the 2022 PGF National Championships.

She also excelled in Volleyball and Basketball for Mossyrock, earning All-League honors in both sports.

Brooks finished her volleyball career with a .231 attacking percentage, 461 kills, 174 blocks and 474 digs. She posted an .871 service percentage and delivered 218 aces to the Viking attack. She led Mossyrock to three-consecutive League and District Championships, along with three-straight Top-3 finishes at the Washington State 2B Tournament. As a senior, Brooks was named MVP of the Lewis County All-State Senior Showcase at Centralia College. She earned All-League notice in both 2020 and 2021 and was named Dailey Chronicle All-Area in 2021 and 2022.

Brooks was a 2nd-Team All-League Basketball selection as a freshman and a junior, while earning a 1st-Team nod in her sophomore season. She boasts career averages of 9.9 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game. As a senior, Brooks is presently scoring 11.4 points per game on 39% shooting, while grabbing 61 total boards in 10 games. She has the Vikings on pace for a third-consecutive League Championship.

Brooks also serves as the current Associated Student Body President for Mossyrock High School.

"Choosing CSUB felt like an easy decision, because once I stepped foot in Bakersfield it felt like a home away from home," Brooks explained. "The small town feel, and the support of my teammates is everything I've wanted in a school! I am confident that in the next four years, while attending CSUB, I will not only reach my career goals, but become a better person on and off the field."

Hailey is the daughter of Josh & Becky Brooks and has two older sisters Taylor and Sydney.
