Bakersfield Sweeps Jessup in Preseason Scrimmage

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The California State University, Bakersfield women's volleyball team got its first taste of live action on Friday in a scrimmage against William Jessup University. The Roadrunners earned a 3-0 sweep over their visitors inside the Icardo Center while also utilizing a wide array of lineups, an invaluable opportunity for Head Coach Giovana Melo and her coaching staff with less than a week remaining before the season begins.

Set 1 (CSUB, 25-16)

CSUB opened up a 12-5 lead on Jessup and never looked back, winning the opening game 25-15.
The `Runners outhit the Warriors .259 to .045.
Bakersfield tallied six service aces including four from the team's 2021 ace leader, Paige Calvin.

Set 2 (CSUB, 25-19)

CSUB raced out to a 9-1 lead and cruised to a dominant victory.
Bakersfield native and UTEP transfer Ava Palm tallied eight kills in the second set alone.
The `Runners committed just one attack error in the game and hit .593 as a squad.

Set 3 (CSUB, 25-15)

From an 8-8 tie, the `Runners went on a 7-1 run to earn some breathing room.
Bakersfield added five more service aces in the final set.

Notables

Sophomore outside hitter Ava Palm led all student-athleres with 12 kills and a .733 hitting percentage.
CSUB tallied a total of 13 service aces, including seven from Paige Calvin.
Grad transfer Laura De Pra tallied 26 assists in her unofficial CSUB debut.
