D'Arcy Named as NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee

Bakersfield, Calif.  CSU Bakersfield swimmer Autumn D'Arcy has been nominated for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Fewer than 600 scholar-athletes were nominated from a pool of nearly 220,000 female participants across all levels of collegiate athletics, as part of a program honoring women for their achievement in academics, athletic excellence, community service and outstanding leadership.

"Autumn continues to set a standard at CSUB, despite graduating more than a month ago," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "She's an inspiration to all our athletes at CSUB, and a great example to the next generation of Roadrunners on how hard-work and determination can lead to accomplishment - even in a post COVID world. She has certainly inspired me in our efforts to bring the swimming program to new heights."

D'Arcy capped a standout Roadrunner career when she was named the 2022 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimmer of the Year and became the first CSUB woman to advance to the Division I NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, competing in three separate events.

The Redlands, Calif., native graduated from CSUB with nine conference championships and two conference swimmer of the year honors, along with a 3.9 cumulative grade point average as an early education major. D'Arcy has also represented the 'Runners in International competition at the 2020 United States Olympic Trials and several US Opens. In 2022, she placed second in the 100 Butterfly to earn a US Open Silver Medal.

D'Arcy is the winningest Roadrunner swimmer at the Division I level with 65 career victories, and holds school records in the 100 Backstroke, the 100 Butterfly, the 200 Butterfly and the 200 Individual Medley. She was also a part of record-setting relays in the 200 and 400 Medley events and the 200 Freestyle competition.

Outside of the pool, D'Arcy has also been honored on three occasions as an All-Conference Academic selection, and last month earned a Collegiate Swim Coaches' Association of America Academic All-American nod.

Additionally, she is one of several CSUB swimmers heavily involved in community service activities throughout Bakersfield and Kern County.

"I'm overwhelmed by this honor, and thankful for my time studying and competing at CSUB, and living in the Bakersfield community," D'Arcy explained. "This university has provided me so many memories, endless opportunities and lifelong friendships. I am humbled and grateful for the last four years."

The NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee is made up of representatives from NCAA member schools, including 10 from each division. The committee will meet this month to select the Top-30 nominees, before eventually whittling the field down to three candidates. A winner will be chosen as the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year this fall
