Snopko Named Computer Science Outstanding Undergraduate

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield scholar-athlete Ericka Snopko was selected by the University's School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering as a 2022 Outstanding Undergraduate. Snopko was recently celebrated alongside several other graduating students for their academic success while the dual-sport athlete was named the honoree for the Computer Science major.

A member of both the Roadrunner indoor volleyball team in the Fall and the beach volleyball team in the Spring, Snopko did not allow the rigorous schedule of a student-athlete stunt her academic achievements. The Scottsdale, Ariz. native is on track to graduate summa cum laude (3.9 to 4.0 GPA) from CSUB this weekend.

Snopko will be crossing the stage to receive a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, but she will have her hands full when she returns to her seat; the middle blocker will also be picking up a diploma for an Applied Mathematics degree as Snopko has a double major at CSUB.

"Ericka is a very bright young woman," said Giovana Melo, Head Coach of the CSUB volleyball team. "She has always been very dedicated to her academics as well as the volleyball program. I couldn't be more proud of her for this award. It's been an honor to have had E here for the last four years. I can't wait to see what the future holds for her."

After turning the tassel of her graduation cap this weekend, Snopko plans to continue her education by pursuing a master's degree in cybersecurity.

The CSUB volleyball team proudly celebrates Snopko's academic success as the second-such high honor in the program's history. In 2017, `Runner alumna Sydney Haynes earned the nod for Outstanding Undergraduate in Kinesiology.
