CSUB Beach VB Dominates Pacific on Senior Day

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team sent off its eight Roadrunner seniors with a dominant performance on Saturday afternoon. With the Pacific Tigers visiting the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex at the Student Rec Center, the `Runners swept a pair of matches on their home sand, winning every set played.

"I feel really great with the way we played today," said Cesar Benatti, Head Coach of the `Runners. "We played very consistent. We have been struggling with that consistency in past games, but today we did really good. It's the best way to send [the seniors] off."

Benatti went on to talk about the eight `Runners who played their final home matches on Saturday: "It's a big group that has been a part of the beach program for so long. This group has taken us to a whole new level. I'm really grateful that I get to coach them and to spend some time with them." Alaina Gendale, Anna Unke, Caroline Benke, Ericka Snopko, Seleisa Elisaia, Cameron Solberg, Milica Vukobrat, and Brooke Boiseau all wrapped up their final home match with victories.

Bakersfield cruised through the opposition, claiming wins in each and every set contested. As difficult as it is to pick top performers in such a dominant victory, CSUB's No. 5 pairing of Caroline Benke and Hayley McCluskey stood out in the sand.

McCluskey and Benke are a brand-new duo who paired together on Saturday for just the first time this season. Undaunted by the unfamiliarity, the pair completely dictated both of their matches, holding their Tiger counterparts under single-digit points in three of four sets played.

Bakersfield (9-11) will take the momentum gained by the pair of home wins back out on the road. The `Runners are slated to take on the Arizona Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. next week. CSUB will face tough foes including a pair of Top 20-ranked opponents in Grand Canyon (#7) and Arizona (#17).
