Solberg, Vukobrat Move Up CSUB All-Time Ranks with 2 Wins

LONG BEACH, Calif. – On Day 2 of the Big West Challenge, the CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team suffered disappointing results, dropping three-straight matches in the sand. Outside of a 2-1 day from the top Roadrunner pairing of Cameron Solberg and Milica Vukobrat, CSUB struggled to score team points in losses to two nationally-ranked teams and three Big West Conference foes.

"As a team, today was not a good day," said Cesar Benatti, Head Coach of the `Runners. "We had a few good moments, but overall we were very inconsistent. Playing this tournament, it is very important to be consistent to create the confidence to win games. We will go back to training this week, focusing on the basic things to get back on the winning track."

The chemistry was clearly on display on Saturday between Solberg, a junior from Bolingbrook, Ill. and Vukobrat, another junior who hails Novi Sad, Serbia. The duo has paired exclusively together at CSUB for the past three seasons and the `Runners used their familiarity with each other to win two of three matches at Rosie's Dog Beach today.

Along the way, Vukobrat and Solberg moved passed former `Runner great Molly O'Hagan as both women now have 34 career victories in the sand. The mark is good enough for third all-time in CSUB's beach volleyball history.

Next Week

The `Runners (7-10), whose team record dipped below .500 for the first time this season, will have a week to prepare for their next outing. On Saturday, Apr. 2, CSUB will head south to compete in a tri-dual in Irvine, Calif. Bakersfield will contest an exhibition match against Irvine Valley College before taking on the University of Utah to close out the day.
