Former Chief University of Mississippi Spokesperson Joins CSUB Athletics Staff

Bakersfield, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield Director of Athletics & Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Ziggy Siegfried announced the hiring of Dr. Ralph Braseth, Monday. Braseth will serve as  the Special Assistant to the AD/Senior Advisor and handle various tasks across the department designed to build and celebrate Roadrunner student athletes, the athletic brand, and university and community relations.
 
Braseth comes to CSUB after a long career that includes stops at Loyola Chicago and the University of Mississippi.
 
At Loyola Chicago, Braseth served as the Manager of Student Media building a digital media center from the ground up and mentoring students as they covered Chicago news around the clock on television, radio and through online journalism efforts. His outreach extended to Chicago Public Schools, as he worked to secure grants and develop newsrooms for local high schools on the South Side of the city
 
Braseth also served as a Clinical Professor in Loyola's  School of communication where he taught journalism and communication courses. He also played a role in covering and sharing the story of Sister Jean during the school's historic run to the 2018 Final Four and traveled with student reporters to cover men's basketball during the tournament run.  
 
Prior to Loyola, Braseth served for 17 years at Mississippi as a professor of journalism and a leader in the development of the school's broadcast, print, yearbook, and online journalism curriculum. In 2005 he built the first university converged newsroom in the country.
 
In 2007, Braseth was promoted to the role of Chief University Spokesperson and Media Manager, representing Ole Miss in all communications efforts, including the historic 2008 presidential debate between John McCain and Barack Obama.
 
Braseth also served as producer of the Ole Miss Football Coaches' Show and as an academic advisor and academic recruiter for Rebel Football and Basketball. 
 
Braseth's began his career as a television reporter, anchor and producer for seven television stations. 
 
He holds undergraduate degrees from Western Washington University and the University of Missouri, along with a Master's in Journalism and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration and Leadership from the University of Mississippi.
 
Braseth has assisted more than 300 students in finding their first professional jobs in media.
