CSUB Improves to 6-1 with Pair of Home Wins

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Maintaining its No. 20 AVCA ranking at the start of this week, the CSU Bakersfield beach volleyball team once again defended its home courts with a pair of wins on Saturday. The Roadrunners handed a 5-0 sweep to The Master's University (10-5) before fending off a tough Concordia University Irvine (10-2) squad for a 3-2 win at the Barnes Beach Volleyball Complex at the Student Rec Center.

"We were extremely focused against Master's," said Cesar Benatti, Bakersfield Head Coach. "They are a team that is on the rise; they have been growing the last few years. They are still at a lower level than we are, but we took care of business…We did our homework, played really hard and consistent, so it was a really good game."

In the second match of the day, Benatti's squad grinded out a 3-2 victory over the Eagles, a talented Division II foe: "I thought the teams that got the victory, they adjusted really well to what Concordia was doing to us. Tactically, this game was very rich, with many options to play the game. I think we adjusted really well, focusing on the basics and controlling our side, but also applying a very good tactical game."

On the day, CSUB had three pairs go undefeated including two duos that won all four sets played – the `Runner No. 1 pair of Cameron Solberg and Milica Vukobrat as well as the 5s, Caroline Benke and Megan Gilbert. The victories helped Bakersfield improve to 6-1 on the year with CSUB's only loss of the season coming at the hands of 14th-ranked Pepperdine.

Next on the schedule for Bakersfield will be a pair of rematches, this time on the road. The `Runners are slated to face both Pepperdine and Concordia again on Saturday, Mar. 19, in Malibu, Calif. Full results from Saturday's action are below.
