`Runners Hit the Road for UCSB, CSUN

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSU Bakersfield women's basketball hits the road this week anticipating a pair of Big West games at UC Santa Barbara on Thursday night and CSUN Saturday afternoon. The Roadrunners are coming of their first conference win and are looking to keep the win streak going near the final stretch of league games.

Bakersfield (2-13, 1-5 Big West) split last week's games letting a halftime lead slip against conference co-leader Long Beach State before bouncing back in thrilling fashion, 76-74, over Cal State Fullerton. Jayden Eggleston continues to lead the team with 16.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game and is second in Big West scoring.

CSUB had three players finish in double figures in the win behind a double-double and career-high from Eggleston who had 29 points and 11 rebounds. Andie Easley also produced a career-high tallying 20 points, including nine of the `Runners last 14 in the contest. Vanessa Austin joined the pair in double figures with 18 and outrebounded everyone but Eggleston with nine boards.

UC Santa Barbara (11-7, 5-4 Big West) scored a season-low 31 points in loss at conference co-leader UC Irvine last Thursday before defeating UC San Diego, 59-47. The Gauchos return to their home arena, the Thunderdome, hosting CSUB and Cal Poly.

UCSB leads in the all-time series, 7-4. Last time out, the Roadrunners and Gauchos game was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols. Thursday's contest will be the first time the two teams have seen each other in 2022.

CSUN (7-12, 3-6 Big West) is on a one-game losing streak coming off a 52-65 loss at Big West co-leader UC Irvine last Saturday. The Matadors sit above the `Runners in league standings tied in win-loss-percentage with Fullerton.

Against CSUN, Bakersfield leads in the all-time series with the Matadors, 6-2. CSUB has yet to play Northridge since joining the Big West Conference July 1, 2020, with CSUN opting out of the 2020-21 season and the cancelation of this season's game due to COVID-19 protocols.
