D'Arcy Leads Bakersfield Swimming with Four All-League Nods

BAKERSFIELD – CSU Bakersfield swimmers Ryan Brimer, Autumn D'Arcy, Mikayla Popham were named First-Team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation performers, following last week's conference championship at the East Los Angeles College Swim Stadium, in San Gabriel, Calif. Six more Roadrunners and the women's 400 Medley Relay team earned Second-Team All-League honors at the championship meet.

"It's always an honor to be recognized for your accomplishments," said CSUB Director of Swimming Chris Hansen. "I'm so proud of all our honorees, not only for scoring big points, but for representing CSUB in a positive manner all season."

D'Arcy won conference championships in the 100 and 200 Butterfly events and placed second in the 200 Individual Medley. Her two wins give her seven league titles in three seasons competing for Bakersfield, including her third consecutive championship in the 100 Fly. D'Arcy took first in the 200 Fly with a new personal best time of 1:57.60.

Sophomore Mikayla Popham won the 100 Freestyle in a time of 49.82, coming from behind after qualifying second during the preliminary heats. The Sunshine Coast, Australia, native earned a second First-Team nod with a runner-up effort in the 50 Freestyle and grabbed a Second-Team All-League accolade when she placed fourth in the 200 Freestyle.

Brimer paced the men's team with a second-place performance in the 200 Freestyle with his best time of the season (1:36.69). He also earned First-Team All-League honors at the 2020 Western Athletic Conference championships.

Ariane Skeggs earned a pair of Second-Team awards, grabbing top-eight finishes in the 500 and 1650 Freestyles, while Danielle Albright earned the honor in the 200 Breaststroke.

The CSUB women also posted a Second-Team All-Conference performance a 400 Medley Relay, that saw D'Arcy, Popham and Albright joined by freshman backstroker Leah Kirkman.

On the men's side, Loren Gillilan (100 Fly), Antonio Milin (100 Breast) and Kris Rogic (100 Back & 200 IM) swam to Second-Team honors, while diver Dyson Modica matched the feat on the 3-Meter board.

Both Bakersfield swimming and diving teams placed sixth at the MPSF Championships.

"Several of our regular contributors gave us all-league efforts again this season," Hansen added. "But it was great to see some new names climb in the rankings. Danielle, Leah and Dyson will play key roles on our team as we continue to grow CSUB swimming and diving!"

The Roadrunners now set their sights on the National Invitational Championships in Elkhart, Ill., March 10-13. Fourteen CSUB swimmers will compete in the event, including five women and nine men.
