Urias Named Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week

Bakersfield Native Finishes Week with Perfect 3-0 Mark, Including Wins Over Two Ranked Opponents

SAN FRANCISCO – CSU Bakersfield wrestler Albert Urias has been named Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week after posting wins against Stanford, Air Force and Cal Poly, including a pair against ranked opponents. Urias is undefeated in his last six matchups, dating back to a Jan. 16 win against American, and boasts a 23-11 overall record with a perfect 3-0 mark in Pac-12 competition this season.

"Albert appears to be peaking at the right time and has been overwhelming opponents with his relentless pace," said CSUB Head Coach Luke Smith. "He lost a lot of close matches early in the year and has done a much better job closing out bouts the last few weeks. I'm excited to watch him the rest of the season, because I know his best wrestling is still ahead of him."

Urias opened the week with an overtime takedown to beat Stanford's 29th-ranked Jackson DiSario. In a tri-meet at Cal Poly he added wins over 30th-ranked Sam Wolf of Air Force and Cal Poly's Nathan Tausch.

A native of Bakersfield and a graduate of Ridgeview High School, Urias also posted wins in dual meets with American, Arizona State and California Baptist during his current six-bout run.

Urias is 3-5 against ranked opponents this season and has placed at three in-season tournaments, including a first-place finish at the Roadrunner Open.

He is the first `Runner to be named Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week since Dominic Ducharme earned the honor on Feb. 13, 2019, after a win against Fresno State in the first annual Feud on the Field.

CSUB will host the 2022 Feud on the Field this Saturday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m., against Oregon State on the Main Soccer Field. Tickets to the event are on sale at GoRunners.com/Tickets or by calling 661.654.BLUE.
