Rich Wins 2 Ranked Battles to Advance to Day 2

LAS VEGAS – Battling in one of the most competitive mid-season tournaments in the country, the Cal State Bakersfield wrestling team opened the Cliff Keen Invitational with a strong set of bouts. Chance Rich, Bakersfield's ranked 133-pounder, was the lone Roadrunner to advance to the second day of action after posting a 3-1 performance on the day.

Notables
  • Rich started 2-0 to open the Cliff Keen Invite before falling in a narrow decision to the fifth-ranked wrestler in the country at 133 pounds.
  • Rich rebounded with another win, his second of the day against a ranked opponent, after earning a late takedown against Appalachian State's No. 23 Sean Carter to secure a 3-2 win.
  • Isaac Salas (141) earned an upset, 4-3 decision against No. 28 Job Greenwood of Wyoming before bowing out with a 1-2 record.
  • Johnathon Viveros was the other `Runner to pick up a win before finishing with a 1-2 record on the day.

  • "We had a lot of young guys wrestling today. Johnathon and Isaac are both freshmen and I thought they both competed really well. Isaac getting in a ranked win was great, and even the other two guys he lost two, he was very competitive with the No. 12 guy in the country and another guy who is a former NCAA qualifier."
