Women's Basketball Hosts Omaha for First Home Game

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Following the loss at UNLV on Nov. 20, the Roadrunners were supposed to make their regular season home debut on Nov. 27 hosting Fresno Pacific. However, the game was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols within the Sunbirds' program. CSUB will, instead, host Omaha for their first home game of the season on Dec. 4. The `Runners will be rejuvenated and ready to play after coming off about two weeks of rest.

This Week's Schedule
  • vs. Omaha, Sunday, Dec. 4, 2 p.m. (PT)
Quotes from Head Coach Greg McCall
  • "Looking towards our home opener after the cancelation of the Fresno Pacific game, Omaha is a good team and will be a great test for our first home game of the season."
  • "Our team is still recovering from a few injuries, but I am hopeful that we will have everyone back on the court, including the possible debut of Taylor Caldwell."
  • "The extra rest between games has definitely helped the team's health. With the time spent recovering, we will hopefully be getting some key players back and finally be in a good rhythm."
`Runner Notes
  • Following the comeback win against their neighbors down Highway 99, Fresno State, the Roadrunners were downed by an undefeated UNLV team that never looked back after taking the lead in the second quarter.
  • Cal State Bakersfield finally got off to the strong start they have been searching for, beginning the game 14-4 by the first timeout. The `Runners held onto their lead through the first quarter 17-15 before UNLV went on a few big runs to take control, scoring a combined 59 points in the final three quarters.
  • In Hennie van Schaik's absence, redshirt freshman guard Sophia Tougas stepped up to contribute a team-leading 13 points, shooting 4-of-7 from downtown.
  • Despite the lopsided score, Kayla Morris put in work under the basket on both ends of the court, notching two blocks and steals each, along with seven total rebounds.
Scouting the Mavericks
  • Omaha (3-3) is led by third-year Head Coach Carrie Banks.
  • Before coming to Bakersfield, Omaha made a stop at Pepperdine, winning a close one 56-51.
  • Over half of the Maverick points were score by three of their players, who all had double-digits. Elena Pilakouta led the way with 15 points and 8 rebounds in 38 minutes of play.
  • All of the games in the 2-2 series record between CSUB and Omaha have been during the McCall era. Neither team has begun a streak against each other, as the teams have gone back-and-forth with wins. Also, both teams are undefeated against each other at home.
  • CSUB last played Omaha in the 2018-19 season, where the `Runners were narrowly beaten 53-46.
