Mansur-Wentworth Announces 2023 Track & Field Schedule

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The 2023 Track and Field season is just over a month away from kicking off as the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners continue preparing for another successful year. On Friday afternoon, CSUB Director of Track and Field Marcia Mansur-Wentworth announced the program's 2023 slate, featuring a few big meets that will pave the way for Bakersfield's journey to the Big West Championships and NCAA Championships.

"The team has been working very hard this fall and the coaching staff is very excited about the upcoming season," Mansur-Wentworth said of the year ahead that will kick off in mid January.

The `Runners will begin the indoor season at Northern Arizona's Ax 'Em Open on Jan. 13 before bouncing back and forth between Flagstaff, Ariz. and Albuquerque, N.M. Mansur-Wentworth described the UNM Team Open on Jan. 28 as the premier event of Bakersfield's indoor season with a standout facility hosting great competition.

The indoor season will wrap up Mar. 10-11 when CSUB pole vaulting star Miranda Miller will hopefully vie for her first indoor title. The Bakersfield native is already the school record holder in the event and had a standout 2022 season in which she reset the Big West Championship pole vault record and was an NCAA Outdoor qualifier. Miller will be aiming to become the first NCAA Indoor qualifier in Bakersfield's Division I era (since 2008).

The `Runner women will be joined by the men on Feb. 18 when outdoor season kicks off in Fresno, Calif. at the Sunbird Invitational. Mansur-Wentworth has several quality meets lined up for her squad, including a split trip to the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational, Apr. 14-15.

"Those two are the big meets for our outdoor season. They bring together some of the best teams in the entire country as well as many world-class individuals."

Bakersfield's season will ramp up in May when the `Runners join the rest of the league at the Big West Championships, May 12-13, in Fullerton, Calif. CSUB put several `Runners on the podium a year ago and Bakersfield hopes to keep that momentum rolling in 2023 with a pair of talented teams.

The NCAA Preliminary Rounds are set for May 24-27 and the NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held June 7-10 in Austin, Texas. Mansur-Wentworth and her `Runners are working to continue to be well represented at both of those meets this summer.
