`Runners Ready to Defend Icardo Center Against Bulldogs

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Cal State Bakersfield men's basketball team will attempt to Sweep the Valley on Tuesday night when they host cross-valley rival Fresno State. After the Roadrunner women's squad bested the Bulldog women in a road game on Nov. 11, Bakersfield's men will attempt to make it a clean sweep with a victory over Fresno State in the Icardo Center tomorrow night.

This Week's Schedule
  • vs. Fresno State, Tuesday, Dec. 20, 7 p.m. (PT)

Quotes from Head Coach Rod Barnes
  • "We're a team that's building. We've got a lot of new players and our focus is 40 minutes. I don't coach our guys that 'this game is the bigger than the next game'. Each game has a weight of its own."
  • "You take one game at a time and our next game is Fresno. Especially with a team like ours, being inexperienced, you have to focus. One game, one half, one play. That's what great teams do and that's what we want to be."
`Runner Notes
  • The `Runners (4-6) are coming off a narrow loss against a tough Abilene Christian team that has won 20+ games in four-consecutive seasons.
  • The Cal State Bakersfield offense was led by senior forward Travis Henson, who tallied team-highs of 15 points and eight rebounds.
  • CSUB outscored ACU 32-18 in the paint, but the Wildcats got hot from three-point range (8-of-13) in the second half.
Scouting the Bulldogs
  • Fresno State will come to Bakersfield with a 3-7 record, but the Bulldogs should not be taken lightly as they have several single-digit losses and a strong non-conference resume.
  • At the start of December, the Bulldogs defeated a pair of Big West programs in UC Irvine and CSUN.
  • Isaih Moore leads Fresno State with 12.9 points a game while Bakersfield native Isaiah Hill chips in 7.9 points a contest.
  • The Bulldogs also have a `Runner connection in their head coach, Justin Hutson, who is a CSUB alum, having helped CSUB to a pair of NCAA Division II National Championships in the early 90s.
  • Fresno State has a 9-5 all-time record against CSUB.
  • It has been six years since the Bulldogs last visited the Icardo Center. On Nov. 22, 2016, CSUB defeated Fresno State 71-63. A year later, the Bulldogs got revenge in a game in Fresno, winning 70-55.
