CSUB Back on the Road Again to Face Dartmouth and SJSU

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Roadrunners continued their strong play against La Sierra on Tuesday, downing the Golden Eagles 90-49 to push their record on the year to 4-3. The `Runners had five double-digit scoring performances in the game, four of those coming from the starting lineup. After notching a big win at home, Bakersfield will go back on the road yet again for another two games at Dartmouth on Dec. 3 and San Jose State on Dec. 6. These games will make seven of the `Runners first nine games on the road, and traveling to Dartmouth will be the furthest distance that CSUB travels during the regular season this year.

This Week's Schedule
  • at Dartmouth, Saturday, Dec. 3, 11 a.m. (PT)
  • at San Jose State, Tuesday, Dec. 6, 7 p.m. (PT)
Quotes from Head Coach Rod Barnes
  • About different lineups at the Jim Forbes Classic: "I was aiming to test some of the guys that I had questions about. I wanted to show that we're healthy, on the same page, and can be consistent."
  • "It was a good week for us. All of those teams were great last year, and we were trying to learn how to win against teams that know what to do. Also from the standpoint of being away from home, it allowed us to be together, talk about life, and learn from each other."
  • "Kaleb Higgins had a bad ankle twist before halftime against Alcorn State. He tried to come back out and play, but he wasn't himself. He comes back through bumps and bruises, so when he came to me and said he couldn't play, I knew he was serious."
  • Progress of Naseem Gaskin returning from injury: "He is probably 70% ready right now, but he's nowhere near what he can be. Right now, the injury slows him down, so hopefully we can keep him moving forward in the next few weeks to get him to 100%."
`Runner Notes
  • Playing their first home game in three weeks, the `Runners routed La Sierra 90-49, which marks their largest margin of victory on the year thus far. All 10 `Runners who played in the game ended up on the scoreboard.
  • Travis Henson and Modestas Kancleris balled out, with Henson tallying a season-high of 16 points while Kancleris nabbed his second double-double on the year.
  • Historically, CSUB has taken all three games in the all-time series against Dartmouth, with each of those games being played in the Barnes era.
  • CSUB and San Jose State have a dated history that goes back to their first matchup in 1981, but the teams have played just seven more times in this century. The series record currently stands at 4-4, with Bakersfield winning the most recent matchup, 73-72, back in 2018.
Scouting the Big Green
  • Dartmouth (2-5) is led by sixth-year Head Coach David McLaughlin.
  • The Big Green were also recently in Texas for a tournament, in which they posted a record of 1-2. Their most recent game on Monday ended with a 73-49 loss against Grambling State.
  • Dartmouth's current scoring leader on the season, Ryan Cornish, had 13 points in the last game and 44 points over the three games in the tournament.
  • Despite a 3-0 series record in favor of CSUB, the Big Green and `Runners always seem to play each other close, with the largest single-game margin of victory being just seven points. Their last matchup was around this time last year in the Icardo Center, which ended in a 61-57 Bakersfield victory.
Scouting the Spartans
  • San Jose State (6-2) is led by second-year Head Coach Tim Miles.
  • The Spartans posted a 2-1 record most recently at a tournament in the Bahamas. Their last game out against Ball State was a nail-biting 67-65 victory.
  • Four of San Jose State's five starting players scored in double digits, while Robert Vaihola impressed off the bench with a co-leading 15 points in just 14 minutes of play.
