`Runner Women Open Season at USC, Fresno State

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Coming off a dominant exhibition win over Biola University, the Cal State Bakersfield women's basketball team is full of confidence heading into the start of the 2022-23 regular season. The Roadrunners will kick off the year with a couple of road games against a pair of well-known foes.

This Week's Schedule
  • at USC, Tuesday, Nov. 8, 7 p.m. (PT)
  • at Fresno State, Friday, Nov. 11, 4:30 p.m. (PT)
Quotes from Head Coach Greg McCall
  •  "Saturday's game gave us a mental lift and excitement going into the regular season. We're going to fine-tune a few things, offensively and defensively, and then be ready to go and play. But the exhibition win was definitely a good mental boost."
  • "We have done some research and scouted our opponents out a bit. If we just go out there, we follow our assignments, we take care of business, play harder than them, and do all the little things we need to do, we can come out with a couple wins."
`Runner Notes
  • Bakersfield posted a 96-57 exhibition victory against Biola on Saturday.
  • The `Runner offense was led by sophomore Hennie van Schaik, who tallied an unofficial career-high of 25 points.
  • As a team, CSUB shot 59 percent from the field and 54 percent from three-point range against the Eagles.
Scouting the Trojans

  • The Trojan offense was led by Kadi Sissoko (25 points) and Rayah Marshall (21 points).
  • A year ago, USC posted 12-16 record (5-12 Pac-12) before bowing out in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament in a loss against UCLA.
  • CSUB and USC have only met once in the two programs' histories. The Trojans defeated the `Runners in that contest midway through the 2009-10 season.
Scouting the Bulldogs
  • Fresno State earned a 75-59 win over San Francisco State in an exhibition game this past Saturday.
  • Amaya West (20 points) and Amiee Book (16 points) were the top Bulldog scorers.
  • Last season, the Bulldogs went 11-18 on the year (7-10 MWC) before dropping a five-point game in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
  • Fresno State enjoys a 9-2 advantage in the all-time series against Cal State Bakersfield.
  • The two teams have clashed each of the last two seasons, with both teams taking wins on the road in those matchups.
