Bakersfield Prepares for Jim Forbes Classic in Texas

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After a thrilling 52-43 win against Idaho on Wednesday night, the Roadrunners get a small break before heading back out on the road to El Paso, Texas for the Jim Forbes Classic. This will be a 4-day stretch of matches where CSU Bakersfield plays Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UTEP, and Alcorn State before finally coming back for a home game the following week.

`Runner Notes
  • Bakersfield ended the first half of Wednesday night's game with a narrow lead over Idaho before breaking into a 20-point second-half run to seal the victory.
  • Kaleb Higgins led the way for Cal State Bakersfield with 18 points, while Cameron Smith and Antavion Collum each contributed seven rebounds.
  • Despite shooting just 0-of-4 three-pointers in the first half, Bakersfield had a vastly improved second half putting up 4-of-7.
  • The `Runners beat Idaho for a third straight year of non-conference play, taking its all-time series record against the Vandals to 8-5.
Scouting the Islanders
  • Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3-1) is led by second-year Head Coach Steve Lutz.
  • Lutz was the only first-year mid-major coach to make the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
  • Off to a strong start to their season, Corpus Christi has won three straight games in non-conference play, including their most recent 97-75 win on Nov. 17 against UTRGV.
  • The Islanders' Ross Williams converted 6-of-11 three-pointers en route to a game-leading 24 points, while Trevian Tennyson trailed closely behind with 20 points on the night.
Scouting the Miners
  • UTEP (2-1) is led by second-year Head Coach Joe Golding.
  • The Miners opened the season with a loss against ranked powerhouse Texas 72-57 before winning their last two games against New Mexico State and Sul Ross State respectively.
  • In UTEP's recent 99-59 win over Sul Ross State, sophomore forward Otis Frazier III shot for 9-of-11 FG en route to tallying a team-leading 26 points and 4 steals.
Scouting the Braves
  • Alcorn State (2-1) is led by third-year Head Coach Landon Bussie.
  • After beginning the season with a loss to Ole Miss, the Braves have won their last two games against Wichita State 66-57 and Stephen F. Austin 69-60.
  • Against SFA, freshman Dominic Brewton came off the bench to lead the team with 14 points.

  • Only CSUB's game against UTEP will be live-streamed, which can be found on CUSA-TV.
  • There will not be video broadcasts for any non-UTEP games, but fans can listen to a radio broadcast of the match against Corpus Christi.
