Erteltova's Blocks Record Not Enough Against Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – After stumbling out of the gate in Tuesday night's Big West road match against Cal Poly, Cal State Bakersfield looked like a totally different team as the Roadrunners came up two points short of pushing the Mustangs to a fifth set. CSUB rallied with a dominant third game before falling in Set 4, 25-23, against The Big West's third-place Mustangs.

Notables
  • Cal Poly (16-11, 13-4 Big West) has traditionally been one of the top teams in The Big West, but the `Runners are proving to be a worthy foe for the Mustangs. Since joining the league, CSUB is 1-3 against Cal Poly and the `Runners have only been swept once in those three defeats.
  • Senior middle blocker Emma Erteltova tallied 11 blocks on the night, resetting CSUB's Division I single-game record in the process. Since Oct. 10, Erteltova has tallied 44 total blocks; she only had four blocks on the season before then.
  • Outside hitter Ava Palm posted 12 kills on .333 hitting.
  • Sophomore Samia Bhakta chipped in a career-high six blocks against the Mustangs.
  • Ella Erteltova, Emma's younger sister, recorded a double-double with 11 assists and 11 digs.
Quotes from Head Coach Giovana Melo
  • "I thought we made some great changes in the way were playing after the first set. Even though it wasn't our best performance volleyball wise, we still were able to battle."
  • "I thought Emma did a great job today, defensively and offensively. She comes to practice every day with just a great attitude, she works hard, and makes great changes. Emma has definitely improved in the last month or so."
  • "I also thought Sarah Martin and Lizzie Binder came in and did a great job," Melo said about two `Runners who excelled off the bench on Tuesday.
