Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bakersfield Settles for Draw with UC Riverside

Bakersfield - The California State University, Bakersfield women's soccer team led for 80 of the first 86 minutes, but UC Riverside equalized late forcing the Roadrunners to settle for a draw in Sunday night's Big West Conference matchup at The Main Soccer Field. CSUB found a result for the fourth-straight game, and the seventh contest of their last nine, improving to 4-6-4 overall and 2-1-3 in conference competition.

"I thought our effort was great, but the quality of play probably wasn't there and we weren't able to extend the lead," said CSUB Head Coach Sebastian Vecchio. "The first half we managed well, but in the second half we started to defend deeper and deeper, and you're going to give up a goal when you do that."

First Half...
* Bakersfield wasted no time jumping ahead, scoring the game's first goal in the sixth minute. Freshman Jette Zimmer took a headed pass from fellow forward Kalea Eichenberger and left no doubt, drilling a low shot past UC Riverside goalkeeper Cassia Souza for the 1-0 lead. Solei Moton started the play finding Eichenberger with her throw in.
* The Highlanders outshot CSUB 3-2 but did not put a shot on goal. Both of the 'Runners' chances were on target.

Second Half...
* Leyna Wood took a pass from Alyssa Carranza and blasted a 20-yard shot past a diving Hollee Hercik to give the Highlanders a late equalizer.
* The Roadrunners had five second-half corner kicks to just one for UC Riverside. The Highlanders held a 9-7 shot advantage in the frame.

Notable...
* Jette Zimmer's strike was her third of the season, moving her into a tie for second in goals scored alongside Regielly Halldorsdottir and Karen Flores. Kalea Eichenberger leads the 'Runners with four goals in 2022.
* Hollee Hercik made three saves for Bakersfield, all in the second half, while UCR's Cassia Souza was forced to make six stops overall.
* The Roadrunners are 3-2-4 in their last nine contests, since starting the season 1-4-0.
