Bakersfield Continues Conference Homestand with UC Riverside

Bakersfield – The California State University, Bakersfield women's soccer team enters the final game of a three-game homestand on a roll, posting a 3-2-3 record in their last eight contests and sitting alone in second-place in The Big West standings with a 2-1-2 league mark. The Roadrunners will look to stay hot against visiting UC Riverside on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. The Highlanders enter the weekend with a 2-3-6 overall record and a 0-1-2 conference ledger, and will play at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday night.

CSUB posted a 3-1 victory over Cal Poly, before coming from behind to draw with UC Santa Barbara a week ago and now have eight points in conference play. The 'Runners were voted to finish dead last in the league's pre-season coaches poll and have been the story of Big West play to date.

Bakersfield is 4-7-0 all-time against the Highlanders, including a win in last season's meeting in Riverside, 3-2.

ROADRUNNER QUICK STRIKES...
* Bakersfield freshman Anela Nigito and Catalina Roggerone have been called up to represent their country on Argentina's U-20 National Team. The CSUB duo will compete in international competition with the club over the next two weeks. Roggerone has been chosen as the team's captain during the national team window.

* Roadrunner goalkeeper Hollee Hercik collected the first cleansheet of her Bakersfield career when she made six saves in a road draw with UC Irvine on Sept. 25. She's made eight more in a win and a draw with Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara. The Dixie State transfer has made at least five saves in eight of her 13 outings to date, including a career-high nine in a win over Northern Arizona. Hercik ranks fifth in The Big West with 4.31 saves per game.

* Midfielder Regielly Halldorsdottir is second on the roster with three goals and tied with Kalea Eichenberger for first with nine total points. Halldorsdottir scored a pair of goals in CSUB's season-opening win over UNLV and added the team's lone tally in a loss to Boise State. She also picked up an assist on the 'Runners first goal in a draw with Sacramento State and added the helper on  both of Eichenberger's goals in a win over Cal Poly. Eichenberger leads the club with four goals scored this season, including her two against the Mustangs. She's added one assist to share the scoring lead with Halldorsdottir.

* CSUB forward Karen Flores scored her third goal of the season to draw the 'Runners in a come-from-behind tie with UC Santa Barbara. Flores is tied for second on the team with her three goals and now has four for her Bakersfield career.

* Picked to finish last in The Big West Pre-Season Coaches' Poll, Bakersfield is 1-1-1 through three conference contests, including match-ups with the predicted top-two teams in the league, Long Beach State and UC Irvine. CSUB enters the week in a tie for third-place in the league with rival Cal Poly, just two points out of first place.

* After opening the season with a 1-4-0 record, the Roadrunner women are back on track following a 3-2-3 record over the team's last eight games. Bakersfield's run started with a dramatic come-from-behind, last-second win over Northern Arizona on Sept. 9.

* The Roadrunners drew 886 fans for their conference opening win over CSUN, the largest crowd for a CSUB women's soccer game since Sept. 8, 2019 when 945 fans saw the team beat Fresno State, 2-1. CSUB has hosted two crowds of more than 800 spectators in a single season for the first time since 2016.

* In a conference jam packed with talent, Bakersfield forward Karen Flores was chosen as one of the league's top 11 players ahead of the 2022 season. Flores was an offensive spark during the preseason, tallying a goal in each of the Roadrunners' exhibition wins. She notched her first goal of the regular season in a loss at New Mexico.
